Speaking at the SNL Kagan Radio and TV Finance Summit Wednesday, Cumulus Media Chairman/CEO Lew Dickey said radio should have been "fishing in larger ponds" during the economic downturn, and should still be expanding its reach to new ad categories.

Lynn Anderson Leaves RAB

RAB SVP/Training Lynn Anderson leaves the organization to care for her ailing mother and deal with family matters. She said in a note to RAB staff, "Know that my path is not away from the RAB ... just think of me as a continuing 'Ambassador at Large' for the RAB...and the radio industry."

Michaels: We Wanted Cunningham For TV

Tribune recently negotiated unsuccessfully to bring WLW/Cincinnati fixture Bill Cunningham to its own WGN/Chicago, but Cunningham instead re-signed with WLW. But he will be doing a TV pilot for Tribune, the Cincinnati Enquirer's John Kiesewetter says -- and Tribune CEO Randy Michaels tells Kiesewetter that that's what Tribune wanted all along.

CBS Radio News takes honors for Overall Excellence in the RTDNA's annual Edward R. Murrow Awards, taking two other awards as well. Former Boston-area financial talk host Gregg Rennie has been sentenced to seven years in prison for defrauding listeners and others of about $4 million. Rennie has also been ordered to pay restitution.

Magnaglobal Ups Ad Growth Forecast

Magnaglobal updates its worldwide ad forecast, and is now projecting ad revenue will rise 4.2 percent this year, to $377 billion, up from an earlier projection of 2.4 percent. Radio spending is expected to rise 2.1 percent in 2010, to $27.5 billion worldwide.

Radio One announces a series of transactions that it says are "designed to refinance substantially all of its existing indebtedness," and that will let it buy another 19 percent of the outstanding equity interests in TV One. Radio One currently owns about a 37 percent stake in its TV One affiliate.

Clear Channel/West Palm Signs Dolphins Deal

The NFL Miami Dolphins sign a new multiyear broadcast rights deal with Clear Channel/West Palm-Treasure Coast that will have the team's game's airing on WZZR and WJNO-AM in English and on WRLX-FM/West Palm in Spanish. WCZR-FM will air the games in Ft. Pierce and the Treasure Coast.

Beasley Elected NAB Radio Board Chair

The NAB Joint Board, TV Board, and Radio Board held meetings in Washington, DC, Tuesday and Wednesday, and Beasley Broadcast Group EVP/CFO Caroline Beasley was elected to chair the Radio Board. Additionally, Gordon Smith was approved by the Joint Board as NAB president and CEO.

Court Orders FCC To Explain Form 323 Requirements

The U.S. District Court in DC is asking the FCC to explain why it needs to collect Social Security numbers for all attributable principals in radio-station ownership on the new Form 323. The court issued the order following a petition from Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth and a number of broadcasters' associations.

California Noncomm Draws $12,500 NAL For Airing Ads

Noncommercial KUFW-FM/Woodlake, CA, owned by National Farmworkers Service Center, has been sent a notice of apparent liability by the FCC for "willfully and repeatedly broadcasting prohibited advertisements."

AT&T Suspends iPhone Orders

With unexpectedly high pre-orders -- 10 times higher than the first day of ordering for the iPhone 3G S -- AT&T has stopped taking early orders for the iPhone 4 so it can fill the orders it's already received. The eagerly anticipated smartphone is due in stores June 24.
