FCC Approves Net Neutrality Order

After a long open meeting that included some unusually pointed remarks from the dissenting commissioners, the FCC yesterday, as expected, approved Chairman Julius Genachowski's "net neutrality" order on a party-line 3-2 vote. While Democratic Commissioner Michael Copps, who voted in favor, called the order an " important turning point in the struggle to ensure the continued openness of the Internet," Republican Commissioner Robert McDowell said the FCC has "provocatively charted a collision course" with legislators.

Excerpts From The Order

Although the full order is not yet available, the FCC has released what it calls "key excerpts" from today's order on net neutrality, incuding the new definition for "broadband Internet access service" and some details on the rules on transparency, no blocking, and unreasonable discromination.

The FCC's Enforcement Bureau issues a $1,500 forfeiture order to Florida Institute of Technology for a late license renewal application at WFIT/Melbourne.

Following reports that Michael Savage has sued Talk Radio Network over his contract, TRN says it had a contractual right to match other offers and last month exercised that right. TRN CEO Mark Masters called the lawsuit "unjustified and frivolous."

After the departure of morning legend Gerry House, Clear Channel Country WSIX/Nashville set its new lineup, with Billy Greenwood coming in from KSD/St. Louis to team with CCR/Nashville traffic reporter Karla Lawson after the holidays. Greenwood has been voicetracking middays on WSIX.
