During my first tour of duty at Radio Ink I remember, not so vaguely, that there were a lot of complaints, concerns, objections about the way ratings were being calculated via the paper diary system. Fast forward ten Internet light years later and the Arbitron PPM (Portable People Meter) seems to have quite a few General Managers hot under the collar. We wanted to know what you thought about how this new technology has helped or hurt your ability to increase sales.

Minority Ownership A "Keen Disappointment"

The Obama administration's Federal Communications Commission received sharp criticism and attacks from over 23 civil rights groups recently in the area of minority broadcast ownership and enforcement of EEO. The Minority Media and Telecommunications Council (MMTC) characterized the Obama administration's track record as a keen disappointment and went on to say that the Obama administration at the FCC has not moved any actionable proposals to improve minority ownership in the past 2 years.

Alliance for Women in Media Announces Gracie Award Winners

The Alliance for Women in Media has announced the 2011 local, online, public and student winners of the annual Gracie Awards. The winners will be recognized at an industry luncheon on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, Beverly Hills, CA. The Gracies recognize exemplary programming created for women, by women and about women in all facets of electronic media, as well as individuals who have made contributions to the industry.

ESPN Radio Hits The Bahamas for First Time

ESPN has reached a two-year agreement with Navetter Broadcasting Company. ESPN Radio will be aired on ZSR-FM (103.5) from the Bahamas, it was announced by Bernard Stewart, Vice President, ESPN Caribbean and Maritime Media and Vann Ferguson, General Manager of Navetter Broadcasting. This is the first ESPN Radio agreement in the Caribbean.

Public Radio Program Directors Offering Morning Edition Grad School.

The PRPD will offer the one day program to help public radio stations improve the local presentation of NPRs Morning Edition. The date is April 16 in Tampa. Part of the Local News Initiative, the Morning Edition Grad School is aimed at assuring peak performance for Morning Edition on local stations. This session will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at WUSF-FM on the campus of the University of South Florida.

Megatrax Music promoted Ileana Landon from Division Manager to Senior Division Manager in the Radio division. Landon, who has been with Megatrax since 2003, has been managing and directing Megatrax's U.S. and Latin American presence in the radio space since 2003.
