According to Radio One, longtime radio legend Steven Collins died this morning from a heart attack while surrounded by family and friends. Collins was Director of Urban Marketing and External Relations and host of the weekly show, "Philly Speaks," on Old School 100.3. He was 58.
In a report on NBC in Philadelphia, Radio One Chair Cathy Hughes said, ?Collins was a valued member of the Radio One Family for over a decade and brought together the corporate, civic, clergy, and overall community for a positive good. I personally recruited E. and firmly believe that it was one of the wisest hires of an exemplary executive and broadcaster.?

Saddned to hear this while listening to the Tom Joyner Morning Show this morning. The fact that I heard it on Tom Joyner's show says all that needs to be said about a guy who personified old school radio--the days when the industry REALLY showed it had a heart for the local community. It's been over a decade since I last worked with E when we were together at WDAS in Philly. The man touched a lot of lives and used his on-air platform well. RIP man!
