Morris Tells Radio To Think Outside The Box

Chad Morris is the head coach of the SMU football team. His keynote at the Radio Ink Sports Radio Conference focused on his secrets to winning. Morris, who also coached at Clemson, has a motto: "adapt or die." He says it's paramount to adapt to the market and he tells his coaches and players they have to think outside the box and avoid acting in a cookie-cutter environment. The coaching lessons struck home with the radio attendees. Morris says teamwork is just as important on the field as it is in the studio.

Morris drove home the concept that it's more important to discuss with your team what you can do to improve your situation, and to avoid "energy vampires." "Don't just tell me what's bad, tell me what we're going to do to improve the situation. Put a discussion together with your team and figure out what's next." He also stressed how important it is to stay on the cutting edge of whatever your field is. "Your competition is working on what's next. Someone is going to be on the cutting edge, challenge your team to brainstorm what is next, what will work and stay innovative. It's instrumental to look to the future, get it working, and stay on the cutting edge. Sometimes you have to take a gamble, take a chance, think outside the box."

Morris helped the Clemson Tigers to the 2011 ACC Championships, and four bowl berths, including two BCS Orange Bowls. In 2012, Clemson set school records for total offense per game, points per game, and the 2013 offense average 507.7 yards and 40.2 points per game.

All very jolly and certainly a viable, worthy and necessary premise.

However - and I expect little argument - most radio managers have yet to define the box they are already in.

Morris Staying With CBS, Heads to Miami

CBS Radio is keeping Rob Morris. The company announced late on Monday that Morris, who was VP of programming for CBS's former cluster in Tampa, will take the same position in Miami working for Joe Bell. Morris had been with CBS Radio in Tampa for only a few months when the big deal with Beasley was announced. Prior to Tampa, Morris was operations manager/program director for CBS Radio's Minneapolis stations KZJK-FM and KMNB-FM. Morris will now oversee the programming at WPOW-FM, WKIS-FM, and WQAM-AM.

MSNBC had a little fun at Morris's expense, using a screen shot from a distance away, revealing that Morris was speaking to rows of empty chairs. I hope he hasn't rented an apartment in Philadelphia. In a few ratings periods, he'll be shown the door just like at FNC.

What is happening at 1210 - I remember when it was fun to listen to and we actually learned something. The Angry Birds got Anbrier,,,,, and added their Third Kuckoo to the nest.
This station has turned into nothing but a Mutual Adiration Society of Get off My Lawn Rush/Sean/Limbaugh Stepford Wanna=Be's.... Leave the Kuckoo Nest,,,, the closk strikes three and your replaced.
What a shame

Rob Morris Moves to Minneapolis...Eventually

Morris will be the Operations Manager for CBS Radio's KMNB and KZJK in Minneapolis as of July 2nd. Before taking on his new role Morris will join CBS radio Orlando?s WJHM-FM as an onsite consultant alongside the programming team led by Bobby Smith according to Mick Anselmo, Senior Vice President and Market Manager for CBS RADIO Minneapolis. ?I?m exceptionally pleased to have Rob Morris join us in July.  He has the heart of a warrior and his hiring is sure to guarantee results. He?s a franchise programmer and having him join our team is great for our stations.?

Morris has a long and revered career in radio and broadcasting. After graduating from Ohio State, he started his career in Columbus at WSNY and WVKO and  then shifted to Cleveland joining WJMO-FM.  In 1994, Morris moved to the Twin Cities where he was Assistant Program Director/Music Director/mid-day jock  for KDWB.  He remained at the station through December 2011, where he most recently served as Operations Manager/Program Director, as well as Operations Manager of KTLK.

Hubbard's Ginny Morris Wins MIW Trailblazer Award

The Most Influential Women in Radio, a group Radio Ink started about 15 years ago, has blossomed into an organization that keeps women throughout the radio industry connected in many ways. One way is through a mentoring program that helps radio newcomers learn and thrive. The MIW's have a website where more can be learned about the group. And, the group always gets together for dinner at events like the Radio show and the NAB convention in Las Vegas. Yesterday the group awarded its annual trailblazer award to Hubbard Radio CEO Ginny Morris.
