Linda Little Rises In Phoenix

iHeartMedia has promoted  Linda Little to president of its eight-station Phoenix cluster. Little has been in sales management roles with iHeartMedia since June 2000. Prior to that she worked in radio sales for Chancellor/AMFM and Sandusky. Little replaces Scott Hopek, who was promoted to president of the New York market.

Little will report to iHeartMedia EVP of Operations Hartley Adkins. Said Atkins in the announcement: "Linda has been on my team for several years and I have personally witnessed her transform iHeartMedia Phoenix into the digital leader it is today. This is a well-deserved promotion and I am confident in her ability to drive results by amplifying the success and momentum Phoenix has experienced in recent years."

Added Little: "I have had the privilege of building my media career in Phoenix and am very fortunate to have worked for a company that has given me many opportunities to grow while constantly evolving with the industry. Barry Young Retiring From KFYI Phoenix

After nearly three decades with Newstalk 550 KFYI Phoenix, morning man Barry Young (pictured left) will retire in November. Young started on KFYI on April 27, 1987 as an on-air talent and PD. He said, ?Being a part of KFYI's growth and development from a new renegade start-up Talk radio station into one of America's great and mature heritage radio stations has been both a wonderful challenge and delight. It has been an incredible privilege to be an integral part of all this and to be a part of the day-to-day lives of so many thousands of our listeners, our neighbors, all across Arizona. Although I am retiring from a day-to-day Talk radio program, my heart will always be in broadcasting and at KFYI. I know that I will miss being on the air more than I can express, but I know I leave KFYI and all of our listeners in good hands.?

Listeners, friends, co-workers, and clients will have the chance to say goodbye to Young at the Barry Young Celebrity Roast in late October. Barry?s final day as a full-time show host will be November 7. Afternoon driver Mike Broomhead will take over mornings. Broomhead has spent five years hosting on KFYI and has added national duties on Glenn Beck?s Blaze Network.

Broomhead said, ?Barry Young is a legend in this business and will someday soon be in the Arizona Broadcasting Hall of Fame. It has been an honor to work with and learn from him. I'm looking forward to hosting mornings. I want to talk about the issues that concern all of us and find solutions that are best for Arizona. I?m not always right, but I always want what is best.? PD Neil Larrimore added, ?Mike is a superstar who has worked hard to earn this opportunity. He's a great host, but even more so, he's a good man. We?re so excited to move him into mornings at Newstalk 550 KFYI."

Bonneville Rebrands KTAR Phoenix

The changes at the 92-year-old KTAR-FM (and www.ktar.com) include several weekday programming changes and a new website designed for mobile users. Market Manager Scott Sutherland said, ?This rebrand and website relaunch lets the community know that our commitment to live-and-local news has never been stronger. And it also signals that KTAR News is a multi-platform media brand that distributes audio news and talk show content on FM Radio, KTAR.com, and the KTAR App, as well as written, audio, and video story content online across all devices.?

The new KTAR News Programming Schedule:
5 a.m. ? 9 a.m. Arizona?s Morning News
9 a.m. ? noon Bruce St. James and Pamela Hughes

ESPN Phoenix To Debut

Bonneville says is will launch an ESPN affiliate in Phoenix on 620-AM September 15 and carry the entire syndicated ESPN radio lineup of hosts. Arizona Sports, which has been simulcasting on radio at 620-AM and 98.7-FM, will be heard exclusively on its FM dial position beginning the same day. Bonneville Phoenix Vice President and Market Manager Scott Sutherland said the move helps meet both audience and advertiser demand. ?It?s the best of both sports worlds, as we?ll now be providing world-class local programming on Arizona Sports 98.7 as well as full-time programming from the worldwide sports leader on ESPN Phoenix 620.?

"The Peak" Makes Way For Sports In Phoenix

Another music station is nudged off FM for the sports format. Bonneville began simulcasting Arizona Sports KTAR-AM at 98.7-FM. Bonneville Market Manager Scott Sutherland said, "Besides a stronger signal and better statewide broadcasting reach, more than 85 percent of radio listeners utilize the FM dial." The move also brings to a close a decade-long run for The Peak (KPKX) music station.

Arizona Sports is the flagship broadcaster for the Phoenix Suns, Arizona Cardinals, Arizona Diamondbacks, Phoenix Coyotes, and Arizona State University and broadcasts Arizona Interscholastic Association prep sporting events from around the state.

Clear Channel Phoenix Gets 2 New GSM's

George Flora and Libia DeLucca have both joined the company as GSM's. Flora joins Clear Channel Phoenix from ESPN Radio in L.A., where he spent the past 6 years. Prior to that he was at CBS Radio in Los Angeles for 12 years. Flora will oversee all sales for KFYI, KFYI Business and Fox Sports Radio. DeLucca comes from Gannett in Phoenix where she was a Digital AE and Digital SM. DeLucca will serve as one of Clear Channel Phoenix's GSM's and will also assist with Brand Manager responsibilities for Old School Eva 95.5.

Fox Sports Phoenix Brings In Jody Oehlner

KGME-AM Fox Sports 910 AM Phoenix has hired Jody Oehler for afternoon drive. Oehler joins Cardinals Insider Mike Jurecki and Michael ?Jack? Bauer  from 2:00-6:00 p.m for the afternoon show beginning September 3. Oehler is currently the Afternoon Drive host at Journal?s ESPN Tucson on 1490 AM and 104.9 FM, and Sports Anchor at KGUN-TV. 

PD Neil Larrimore says, ?Jody is a talented rising star. He?s an incredible communicator and a true sports fan. We look forward to Jody helping to move our brand forward on-air as well as online. We are lucky to have him.?

KOY Phoenix Debuts The Business Channel

The KOY-AM format goes from Adult Standards to Business Talk teaming up with News Talk 550 KFYI to become 1230 The KFYI Business Channel. 1230 The KFYI Business Channel is the home of Bloomberg Radio in Phoenix, The Big Biz Show with Sully, and local programs that will be announced soon.

Joey Boy Joins CBS Phoenix

He'll take over afternoon drive at KZON-FM (101.5 JAMZ) and Music Director duties starting May 6. Joey Boy worked in the Phoenix market for nine years from 2001 ? 2010; first as the host of Power 98.3?s afternoon show and then as morning host. Most recently, he was the afternoon host on Q104.7 in Ventura, California, as well as the Assistant Program Director/Music Director for its sister station Live 105.5.

Tim Richards is the new PD at KMLE-FM. Richards most recently programmed Clear Channel's KISS-FM in Phoenix. Tim is a Chicago native but has lived in Arizona on and off since 1994. He has programmed in Phoenix, Detroit, Chicago, and Tucson. He got his start in radio as Assistant Program Director / Music Director for MIX 98.5 in Boston where he worked with CBS SVP of Programming Greg Strassell.

Phoenix Jock Dies From Flu Symptoms

Arizona Television station ABC15 is reporting that Riviera Broadcasting's Stephan Seravalli (pictured) died in Arizona shortly after contracting flu-like symptoms while visiting Florida during the holidays. He was 38 years old. Seravalli, known as Deejay Trauma on Phoenix's Power 98.3, had previously worked at WiLD 94.1 in Tampa Bay from 1999 to 2008. A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for Jan. 22 in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Brad Booker Gets Morning Gig at KMLE Phoenix

KMLE Program Director Jeff Garrison says Booker starts Monday. He'll replace Tim and Willy who were let go back on July 26th. Booker (pictured) comes to KMLE having previously served as morning show host for KWNR-FM in Las Vegas. His market experience also includes Dallas, Houston, St. Louis, Kansas City and New Orleans.

Garrison said, ?We are excited to have Brad Booker on the KMLE team. Having worked with Booker at (CBS RADIO?s) Hot 95-7 in Houston I witnessed first-hand his upbeat, and entertaining style. Listeners embraced his program and I expect nothing different here in
