CBS Finally Gets an FM For WFAN

10-8-2012

As we speculated last week, and despite Randy Michaels saying Merlin was not for sale, CBS radio has picked up Merlin's New York City FM and will flip the format to WFAN. The $75 million purchase of WRXP from Merlin Media was announced today. In late fall, CBS will begin its operation of the station under an LMA launching a simulcast of Sports Radio 66 WFAN. Is Philly next to be sold?

CBS Radio President Dan Mason said, ?This is an extremely exciting opportunity to expand our radio presence in the nation?s largest market. Sports is a very popular format and a huge growth category for our business.  As a result of this new asset, we look forward to The FAN building on its position as the leading sports radio franchise in the country.?
