Respected Wall Street financier Steven Rattner knows what it's like to jump in at the deep end: In 2009, he accepted a post as counselor to the Secretary of the Treasury in the Obama administration and led the restructuring of the U.S. automotive industry. With no automotive background, Rattner took on this high-pressure, high-profile task and got a unique opportunity to see, with the eyes of an expert outsider, the inner workings and deepest concerns of this industry so closely tied to radio's fortunes and future.
At Radio Ink's Forecast, set for November 28 in New York, in an onstage interview conducted by Bloomberg Surveillance co-hosts Tom Keene and Ken Prewett, Rattner will be be talking candidly about his experience and what he sees ahead for the auto industry and the economy -- whether that's under a re-energized Obama administration or the fresh but untried leadership of Mitt Romney.
Steve Rattner currently chairs Willett Advisors LLC, the investment arm for New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's personal and philanthropic assets. Before becoming President Obama's "Car Czar," he was Managing Principal of private investment firm Quadrangle Group, which managed more than $6 billion in assets. Before forming Quadrangle, he was Deputy Chairman and Deputy CEO at Lazard Freres. He joined Lazard Freres in 1989 after a term as a Managing Director at Morgan Stanley. He is currently an economic analyst for MSNBC's Morning Joe and wrote a book about his experiences with the auto industry: "Overhaul: An Insider's Account of the Obama Administration's Emergency Rescue of the Auto Industry."
Tom Keene (pictured left) is host of Bloomberg Surveillance, beginning each day at 6 a.m. ET on Bloomberg Television, Bloomberg Radio, Bloomberg.com, and on mobile and tablet devices. He also provides economic and investment perspective on Bloomberg TV and to the company's various news divisions. In addition, he founded the "Chart of the Day," found on the Bloomberg Professional Service, and edited "Flying on One Engine: The Bloomberg Book of Master Market Economists."
Ken Prewitt (pictured right) is a weekday editor for Bloomberg Radio and co-hosts Bloomberg Surveillance with Tom Keene and Bloomberg Businessweek Radio with Pimm Fox. Prewitt joined Bloomberg Radio in 2005 and has interviewed such high-profile figures as Alan Greenspan, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, and Ford Exec. Chairman Bill Ford. Before joining Bloomberg, he worked for the Wall Street Journal and WSJ Radio Network, Money magazine, and ABC News.
