The Daily Caller is reporting that Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah), is looking into allegations that Beyonce and her husband Jay-Z's $40,000 per-person fundraiser for President Obama's re-election, led to concerted effort by the music industry to curry favor with the administration.
The Caller reports that the music stars are looking for Obama to return a favor for their election support, by asking the Department of Justice to discard a consent decree, dating back over 50 years. The decree was designed to ensure that royalty rate hikes cannot be imposed without real market-based negotiations. Music industry lobbyists have allegedly been pressing the Obama administration to abandon the consent decrees, allowing them to force rate hikes on radio, television, and online broadcasters.
