The final stories have been covered at FM News 101.9 (WEMP-FM, New York) and FM News 101.1 (WIQI-FM, Chicago). Both stations have thrown in the news towel and opted for music. It's Alternative in New York and Adult Hits in Chicago. Merlin Media CEO Randy Michaels said, "It was a difficult decision to make, but after a year of minimal audience engagement, coupled with the format?s inherent expense, I felt it was time to make a change. I?d like to thank the people who poured their heart and soul into the effort and I wish them all the best.?
Less than one year ago we featured Randy Michaels on our cover. He was very high on the new female-focused all-news format. That was followed by consistent jabs at the competition, WBBM, at the time only heard on AM. WBBM quickly picked up an FM frequency, the Michaels love-affair with Walter Sabo fizzled out early and the ratings never materialized. So there was no magic for Michaels in the newsroom so now it's back to the music.
