Val St. John and Scott Fish, the morning team on Renda's Gator Country in Fort Myers, are suspended indefinitely after the Renda brass caught wind of the ancient joke. The duo announced that "dihydrogen monoxide" was coming out of the water taps. Of course, "dihydrogen monoxide" is a scientific way to say water, but GM Tony Renda Junior was not interested in wasting his time cleaning up the mess and gave the team a breather.
Lee County Utilities office had to spend the morning fielding calls from residents who wanted to know if the water was safe for drinking. The station was playing a taped apology during the majority of the day Monday, in nearly every stopset. Tuesday morning was music and liners. As a result of the prank and suspension, Renda did get a lot of publicity in the local newspaper and on the local TV stations in Fort Myers.

The residents in this market must be certified morons. Of course, given the general ignorance that most Americans have towards science, it's not surprising the reaction of the listeners. I doubt that you could fool anyone with this joke in say, Germany.
