It's not the final total and it may be difficult to know that exact number being that donations were being sent directly to the Red Cross. What we do know is that listeners to all 525 Cumulus radio stations have donated at least $3.7 million for the victims of the Oklahoma tornado. The Cumulus fundraising effort from Wednesday featured station personalities asking listeners to make donations for the survivors and families of the victims.
The United Way of Central Oklahoma has also told Cumulus that the Wednesday evening benefit concert raised approximately $6,000,000 in pledges and ticket sales.
Wednesday night, all 84 Cumulus Country stations aired a one-hour fundraising special hosted by Kix Brooks and co-hosted by KSCS/Dallas personality Hawkeye ? live from backstage at the Healing In The Heartland: Relief Benefit Concert. Between 6a-8p on Wednesday, 5/29 (the day of the radio-thon) there was a 42% increase of pledges as compared to 6a-8p on Tuesday, 5/28. There was also a 25% increase in the amount of monies donated between 6a-8p Wednesday, 5/29 compared to the same time on Tuesday, 5/28.
A big thanks to Mike McVay at Cumulus for keeping us informed on what Cumulus is doing to help the folks in Oklahoma.
