Smartflash was awarded $532.9 million by a Texas jury in a patent infringement case involving six patents on Apple's iTunes Store, Apple TV, iOS, iAd, and data storage and access systems. The award came despite Apple's claims, according to Bloomberg, that the Smartfish patents were invalid and weren't infringed.
Apple argued that Smartflash didn't have complete control of the patents and waited too long to file suit. It also argued that Smartflash's royalty demands were "excessive and unsupportable." Apple responded to the decision saying that, "...we have been left with no choice but to take this fight up through the court system." Smartflash is also suing Samsung and Google.
