Nobody reading this newsletter is going to shed a tear over this story. If you believe the Kantar numbers, it was another bad quarter for newspapers on their way to another bad year. Local newspaper revenue was down 14% for the quarter and 15% for the first six months of the year. National publications declined 4.2% in the quarter and 8.9% so far January to June. According to Kantar, large cutbacks from Auto Dealers and Retailers, two categories that have been aggressively shifting budgets into digital media, were a major contributor to the results.
