Ingraham Talks About Next Phase of Life

Laura Ingraham, who started her new show with Courtside Entertainment this week, tells Diane Brady at Bloomberg/BusinessWeek that it was time for her to make many changes in her life, more than just going with a new syndicator. And she indicated that her show is going to be more about life and less about politics. "The personal connection with listeners is more satisfying than political conversations."

Ingraham said she sought advice from many people about the next phase of her life, including Don Imus. Ingraham became a regular on the Imus in the Morning program back in the 90's. "I?m a single mother to three young kids; I?ve been treated for breast cancer; I?m caring for my aging father. There?s a lot more that unites us than divides us. I want the show to be livelier, funnier, newsier, more unpredictable." Ingraham also said that if it weren't for the success of someone like Rush Limbaugh she wouldn't be doing this. "You have to deliver good product."

I suspect you'll see a lot of other hosts moving away from 100% politics. Michael Savage has been doing this for a long time and it works for him. He's an entertaining guy and his takes on everyday life are hilarious. I don't know if it'll work for everyone else though. I hope it does though because the market is obviously saturated and bashing Obama, Pelosi, Reid for four more years on AM radio will make it tough to gain new audiences.

Is Laura Ingraham Leaving TRN Today?

An affiliate that carries Laura's show tells Radio Ink that Ingraham has confirmed she's leaving Talk Radio Network as of today, but gave no other details other than to say she would not be on the air today. Laura's people were very cryptic last night, only willing to say, "she's totally keeping everything in the dark."

Dial Global is under contract with TRN for Ingraham's show. In August, TRN filed an anti-trust lawsuit against Dial Global. In September, Michael Savage left TRN and later signed with Cumulus. We reached out to TRN CEO Mark Masters Monday evening, about the Ingraham issue, and have not heard back.

Ingraham Accepts Schultz Apology

Yesterday Laura Ingraham said she accepted the apology of lib-talker Ed Schultz, who was suspended from his television show for one week after calling Ingraham a vulgar term on his radio show Tuesday. And while he was not hosting his own show yesterday, word is that is only due to the long holiday weekend. On her website, Ingraham said she accepted the apology, "It seemed heartfelt, it seemed like he really wished he hadn't said it, and I accept that apology. We disagree on big issues and I'm tough, I can take the critique and I can take the humorous critique. We don't want to Google our names and find certain words popping up which unfortunately you can't erase."

Schultz said he had tried to call Ingraham on Wednesday but had been unable to reach her.
