Salem talk host Michael Medved announced today that he has been battling stage three throat cancer since December. He also announced that, effective today, he will be taking a medical leave of absence until his recovery is more advanced. Filling Medved's show on Salem will be KSKY/Dallas morning drive host Mark Davis, who also hosts the Friday edition of Bill Bennett's Morning in America.
Medved told his national audience Friday that he not only expects to be cured, but that he will return to the air as soon as possible after his treatments are concluded in February. A link to Medved's note to his listener's is available Here and the audio of his on-air announcement Here.
Tom Tradup V.P./News & Talk Programming noted to Radio Ink, "...if you are so inclined, I know Michael would appreciate your prayers at this time...not only for him but also for his family members. He has been so inspiring in recent days helping make plans for his radio program's continuation...sharing the sense of humor and fighting spirit which have made him such a success on the air...and personifying the credo of his program which he has stated countless times on the air: "I am not a victim.'"
