Post Greg Kihn, KFOX To Debut New Sound

9-17-2012

With the departure of Greg Kihn as morning show host at KFOX in San Francisco, Entercom says former KFOG personality Annalisa will take over on September 24. The classic rock station also says it is expanding its music library, and adding a commercial-free, advertiser-sponsored music block every weekday from 9am-noon.

KFOX Program Director Garner Goin said, ?Annalisa has been a radio icon in the Bay Area for over 16 years and she consistently had the highest-rated show on KFOG. Her enthusiasm, passion, and music knowledge will be a refreshing choice for morning drive in the Bay Area. We are equally excited about improving the listening experience for our audience, from our larger music library to a dedicated commercial-free music block every day.?

KFOX?s expanded music library brings a broader classic rock sound to the KFOX audience and will better reflect the Bay Area?s passion for a wider range of rock music. Along with the station?s core artists of Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, and the Beatles, KFOX?s playlist will now include artists from Pearl Jam to Nirvana to Bob Marley to Stevie Wonder.

Beginning September 24, KFOX?s lineup will feature:
?        5am ? 9am ? Annalisa
?        9am ? 12pm ? KFOX Commercial-Free Music Block
?        12pm ? 3pm ? Laurie Roberts
?        3pm to 7pm ? Big Rick Stuart
?        7pm ? midnight ? Webster

(9/18/2012 2:34:24 AM)
I'm glad, at any rate, that KFOX is picking up the good DJs as they flee or fall off of KFOG's ship. If they could manage to nab Rosalie and her acoustic shows, that'd be awesome.
(9/18/2012 2:07:47 AM)
The new format really sucks! I like classic rock like they were playing, and not have it mixed with all of this other crap. Sorry KFOX, but you just lost a listener, and I've been one for so many years, I can't even remember when I got started.
(9/18/2012 1:22:29 AM)
Stupid, stupid move. Disliked Annalisa on Kfog. Really enjoyed the Greg and Chris Jackson in the morning, drive to work much more relaxed. Guess KRTY is my only choice now.
(9/18/2012 12:30:56 AM)
Not only will I no longer be listening to 98.5 in the morning but I will not be listening anymore PERIOD. This is the worst move ever. So much for quality radio stations, now all thats left is 107.7 & 103.7
(9/17/2012 10:50:21 PM)
There is zero continuity between the music Laurie Roberts and her staff were playing and the worthless dreck being served up today. They should have run cum cleaning, although Stone Temple Pilots et al had me running to remove 98.5 and 102.1 from all my devices just as fast as that would have done.

New Savage Book To Debut at #4

Talk Radio Network?s nationally syndicated talk radio host Michael Savage's new book, ?Abuse of Power? will be debuting as #4 on the New York Times Bestseller List on Sunday, October 2nd.  Savage made the announcement on-air during his radio program During the segment Savage told listeners that, ??Abuse of Power? will debut as #4 on the New York Times Bestseller List ? not bad for a guy who is banned from FOX News.?

?Abuse of Power? was released Tuesday, September 13th. ?Abuse of Power,? (a novel) tells the story of a smeared network journalist who uncovers a chilling terrorist plot. The book features the character Jack Hatfield, a hardened former war correspondent who rose to national prominence for his insightful, provocative commentary. But after being smeared as a bigot and extremist by a radical leftist media-watchdog group, he ultimately loses his job and finds himself working in obscurity as a freelance news producer in San Francisco.

One afternoon reporter/producer Jack Hatfield is on a ride-along with the SFPD bomb squad when a seemingly routine carjacking turns deadly after police find several pounds of military-grade explosives in the jacked car. This one event opens up a trail that leads Hatfield from San Francisco to Tel Aviv, London, Paris, and back again, as he works with a stunning Yemeni intelligence agent and a veteran Green Beret in order to expose the terrorist group known as the Hand of Allah, which has organized efforts to achieve their goals which dwarf the 9/11 attacks. Hatfield must make the choice between protecting his own life and investigating a terrorist cell whose goal is nothing less than total political control ? no matter what the cost.

Savage has written 26 books.

'Way' To Go: Bruno Mars Scores Longest-Leading Debut Adult Contemporary Hit

by Gary Trust  |   June 13, 2011 1:05 EDT

With a 20th week at No. 1 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart, Bruno Mars' "Just the Way You Are" becomes the longest-reigning debut single in the list's almost 50-year history.

The song bests the career-opening commands of Colbie Caillat's "Bubbly" (2008) and Daniel Powter's "Bad Day" (2006), each of which spent 19 weeks at No. 1.

("Way" marks Mars' debut song as a lead artist and his first to reach the Adult Contemporary chart. He previously charted on the Billboard Hot 100 as a featured vocalist on B.o.B's "Nothin' on You" (No. 1, two weeks) and Travie McCoy's "Billionaire" (No. 4) last year).

Here is a look at the longest-leading debut singles since the AC survey launched the week of July 17, 1961:

Weeks at No. 1, Title, Artist, Year(s)
20 weeks, "Just the Way You Are," Bruno Mars, 2011
19 weeks, "Bubbly," Colbie Caillat, 2008
19 weeks, "Bad Day," Daniel Powter, 2006
18 weeks, "Lonely No More," Rob Thomas, 2005-06
18 weeks, "Heaven," Los Lonely Boys, 2004-05

Before it reached the AC summit the week of Feb. 5, "Way" led Radio Songs (seven weeks), Adult Pop Songs (five), the Hot 100 (four), Pop Songs (three) and Digital Songs (two).

As "Way" makes AC chart history, follow-up "Grenade" bullets at No. 11 (after topping the Hot 100 for four weeks) and latest single "The Lazy Song" debuts at No. 30 (a week after reaching No. 4 on the Hot 100).

Mars' debut album "Doo-Wops & Hooligans" debuted on the Billboard 200 at No. 3 the week of Oct. 23, 2010, and has spent its first 35 weeks in the chart's top 40. The set has sold 1.1 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

All charts will be refreshed Thursday (June 16) on Billboard.com.

Ben Harper, Slipknot Debut on Social 50 Chart

by Kyle Bylin, Los Angeles  |   June 02, 2011 3:30 EDT

Roots-rocker Ben Harper makes his debut on the Social 50 chart this week at No. 47, thanks to buzz derived from his recent promotion of his latest album "Give Till It's Gone." He appeared on both the "Late Show With David Letterman" Web concert series "Live on Letterman" (May 19) and its parent talk show on CBS. The week following, the live set list premiered on Vevo, pulling in nearly 500,000 plays, a 290% week-to-week increase. Shortly thereafter, Harper continued his talk show march, making back to back appearances on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" and "Conan" (May 24 and 25).
Likewise, heavy metal act Slipknot enters the tally for the first time -- though, not for pleasant reasons. Last week marked the anniversary (May 24) of the death of the late bassist Paul Gray, who passed away in 2010.

Slipknot Replaces Deceased Bassist Paul Gray

On May 23, Slipknot bandmate and drummer Joey Jordison posted a heartfelt letter to his fallen friend. In the coming days, several music news sites remembered Gray and for the first time since the tragedy his wife, Brenna spoke to Revolver. Though a sad week, Slipknot added 348,000 Facebook Fans (up 180% week-to-week) charted the group at No. 42.
The Social 50 ranks the most active artists on the world's leading social networking sites -- YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and iLike -- using a formula blending weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with weekly artist page views and weekly song plays.
In under a month, Beastie Boys debuted at No. 44 (May 4), ascended to a No. 16 peak (May 11), and have since stumbled to 37-45. Across all monitored music outlets, the trio realized a continued decline in plays and views (down 10% and 30% week-to-week). On VEVO, their much-anticipated, star-studded video "Make Some Nose" stalls at a humble 1.6 million plays.
With the release of Taylor Swift's latest video "Story of Us" (May 25) -- her latest single from her album "Speak Now" -- the pop star gained 814,000 VEVO plays, humbly moving 17-15. Additionally, Swift garnered attention for her fundraising effort on May 21 in Las Vegas. There, she sold tickets to the final dress rehearsal for her Speak Now tour in order to raise money to benefit those affected by the deadly tornadoes in the South. Her tour launched on May 27 in Omaha, Neb.

Latin singer Don Omar grabs his eighth top 10 single on the Latin Songs chart this week as "Taboo" vaults 12-6, helping him fly 33-8 on the Social 50. This huge move is mostly fueled by his 19% boost in MySpace plays, as well as his consequent gain of 409,000 Facebook Fans (up 96% week-to-week). The rest of the top 10: Lady Gaga (No. 1), Justin Bieber (No. 2), Eminem (No. 6), BeyoncĂ© (No. 7), and Lil Wayne (No. 9) all hold their respective positions, while Akon (5-3), Rihanna (3-4), Shakira (4-5), and Katy Perry (8-10) shuffle up and down in this week's chart.
Notable re-entries: Daft Punk (No. 40), My Chemical Romance (No. 49), and Bruno Mars (No. 50).

'Idol' Q&A: Scotty McCreery on His 'Crazy Ride,' Debut Album, Lauren Alaina's Kiss

As expected, deep-voiced country phenom Scotty McCreery defeated Lauren Alaina and took home the "American Idol" season 10 crown last night (May 25), making him the fourth straight male winner in the competition. Although Lauren's performance of "Like My Mother Does" earned raves from the judges on Tuesday's final performance night, Scotty's consistent performances, charming stage presence original track, "I Love You This Big" -- along with his consistent performances and charming stage presence throughout the season -- helped push him to victory.

Scotty McCreery Wins 'American Idol' Season 10

One day after 122 million votes tipped in his favor, however, the 17-year-old North Carolina native has brushed the confetti out of his hair and is planning to continue his "Idol" momentum with more original songs and a possible appearance with Lauren at the 2011 CMA Music Festlval, which hits Nashville from June 9-12. In a conference call on Thursday, Scotty discussed his upcoming debut album, the romance rumors between him and Lauren, and the "crazy ride" of "American Idol."

Photos: Scotty McCreery's 'American Idol' Journey

How are you getting used to all of the attention of winning "American Idol"?

Scotty McCreery: This is pretty wild, I gotta say. It's a whole lot more than I bargained for coming into this. I never would have expected it. But I'm handling it well -- this is what I asked for, and it's my new life, so this is a really crazy ride so far.

Carrie Underwood made her debut at the CMA Music Festival and the Grand Ole Opry when she won. Are you headed that way too?

I think we're gonna try and get me and Lauren out there to (Fan Fair) this year. They're trying to work out the specifics right now about where we're gonna be playing, the booth signings and maybe playing at the Grand Ole Opry. They're working all this out as we speak. But we're gonna be down there for sure, I think.

'American Idol' Finale: The 10 Best Performances (Video)

You were an odds-on favorite all season on "Idol." Was there ever a point where you thought you were going home?

This week, especially. Lauren Alaina, she's something else. She sings like a bird. She's just an amazing young lady. Every week I heard people say the "front-runner" stuff, but to me it never even crossed my mind, because everybody this year, from Top 40 down, was just so talented.

Lauren kissed you when you won last night -- is there any romance between you two?

Oh, no. We've been getting that question a lot today. Me and her, it's more like the brother-sister thing. She told me before the show yesterday that she was gonna do that, kind of like a joke. She's a character. But she's lovely, we're really close friends. I met her day one of Hollywood Week, and we were schoolmates through this whole experience.

'American Idol' Runner-Up Lauren Alaina: 'I Knew Scotty Was Gonna Win'

What kind of album would you like to make now?

I'm really looking forward to getting my music out there. We recorded two [songs] this week and we weren't sure which one we were gonna do, and 'I Love You This Big' turned out to be the one we did. But the other one I'm really excited about too. I think it's gonna be a great album. I gotta pick good songs -- that's what it's all about after the show is getting good songs. The fans got me to where I'm at now, so it's my job to get them the music they want to hear and to have good songs. Hopefully me and Lauren Alaina get to do a duet at some point. I'm not sure about the first album, but hopefully sometime soon.

Lauren said that she thought you were definitely going to win going into the finals. What were your thoughts?

My thought was that she wrapped it up when she sang that finale song ["Like My Mother Does"]. That was one of the most beautiful songs I've heard. I was more than nervous coming into it last night, and it worked out in my favor. But Lauren, she's sweet, she's been supporting me and I've been supporting her through this whole process. We're really close friends, and we both came out winners last night.
