Remembering a Modern Day Visionary

Steve Jobs will be remembered as a modern day visionary like no other. We were all truly blessed to have witnessed his brilliance. It?s hard to believe he?s gone, yet he leaves a legacy that will carry on for generations to come. Let me try to put a simple perspective on what Steve Jobs meant to us by giving you five words that the radio industry can live by in tribute to his amazing life.

1) Transformative
This was the first word that smacked me over the forehead upon hearing of his recent passing. He challenged his organization to convert the way people think about music delivery, communication and beyond. This is a challenge our great business faces as we continue to explore new and exciting ways to engage with our audience.

2). Impeccable
Steve Jobs set the standard for flawless execution in every aspect of what his business created. How frequently has this topic come up in radio stations across the country?

3) Intense
The stories are legendary about Steve Jobs? intensity.. He was driven to always find the core of greatness.

4) Pride
Steve Jobs always ran his company with immense pride for its accomplishments in the marketplace. It seemed that as far as he was concerned, no other competitors existed. His pride helped to contribute to his unbelievable ability to ?sell? his ideas to the public.

5) Original
The word much like the others speaks for itself. Steve Jobs defined the word ?original?.

Remembering That Day

It's an over-used cliche whenever a big event happens, however in the case of September 11th, 2001 its' certainly true for every one of us. We all remember exactly what we were doing, where we were standing and how we reacted when it was clear we were being attacked. We reached out to many of you now that 10 years has gone by. 10 years. Hard to believe it's already been a decade. Clear Channel's Bob Pittman was out of the country when he heard the news. Here are his thoughts.

"The morning of September 11, 2001 I was in a minivan in Corsica. My assistant called me as we were getting into the van to tell me a plane had hit the World Trade Center, and during the ride from the windward side of the island to the leeward side we listened to French talk radio, with my French mother-in-law and wife translating for me as the story unfolded.  When we reached the other side of the island we were greeted by sympathetic and supportive locals who had never met us. Although we as a country had just lost our innocence, and had been shocked into a new, frightening era, I had seen a wonderful side of humanity from these locals. That spirit of spontaneous giving and support outshone the heinous and barbaric violence?giving me a renewed sense of hope, even though I was thousands of miles from home."
