Morning Host Invites Entire Community to Her Wedding

Carla Davis does mornings for Clear Channel in Cedar Rapids. She's getting married on September 10th and her guest list is growing by the minute. Davis has invited 4,000 of her Facebook friends to attend the wedding. Davis serves on the volunteer advisory board of the Salvation Army in her community and Davis is inviting everyone to come to her wedding with donations for the Salvation Army. She tells the local newspaper a lot of people are coming and "if they are thinking about a gift we encourage them to donate a monetary gift for the Salvation Arrmy.?

Davis posted on her web page: "You can be living the good life with everything going well , and all of a sudden a road bump can stop you in your tracks. It may be a job loss, a divorce, a flood, fire, medical issue , death in the family, domestic abuse, substance abuse or many other things. When times are tough the selfless people of the Salvation Army are  there for you! They don't pass judgement , they are just there to help you ."

"I am blessed to have so many friends and 2 jobs where I am able to entertain and also help support the great work of non -profits in our community. I have never met a non-profit I didn't like. Selfless people always ready to help others. Matt and I had both been married before and considered eloping as weddings can be stressful and expensive. When people kept saying they were hoping for an invite to share our special day the idea popped into my head. We will have a simple, low-cost wedding (HA, so I thought) and have anyone who wants to share in our special day come . If they are considering a gift, we encourage them to give back to the community through a monetary gift to the Salvation Army. My friends are great givers! The Salvation Army's Motto is "Do the most good!" and that is what I am hoping for with our open to the public reception. I hope people will come -as-they-are, stay as little or as long as they like , enjoy great live music from Mark and Billy , food and fellowship! I hope anyone interested in learning about the Salvation Army will ask questions (staff will be present) and maybe sign up to become a volunteer."

The reception is Sept. 10 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the gym at the Salvation Army, 1000 C Ave. NW, Cedar Rapids.
