CBS Interactive Teams With MetroLyrics

CBS Interactive Music Group announced an expansion of its streaming, personalized radio, on-demand and editorial franchises as a result of integrating MetroLyrics. MetroLyrics is a database of legal lyrics with words to more than 700,000 songs.  The site generates over 25 million unique users a month across the globe with nearly 12 million of those in the United States (comScore, Aug. 2011). President for CBS Interactive Music Group David Goodman (pictured) says ?Searching for lyrics is a core behavior of both the casual and passionate music fan. MetroLyrics is the leader in the category, and has methodically built a loyal following by embracing the inherent social intentions of the music community."

Goodman also says, "Our assets integrate naturally into the existing framework of MetroLyrics and vice versa.  The immediate back and forth effect between the premier online properties will have overwhelming benefits to users. Having MetroLyrics under our leadership will produce a number of opportunities for audience growth both individually and collectively, as well as create an additional revenue source for our business unit.  We believe now more than ever is the time for further innovation and expansion.?

The initial phase of this enterprise affiliation launched Thursday with the debut of a new and dynamic MetroLyrics website.  The updated design presents a very powerful user experience for the consumer with restructured navigation, more original music content than ever before powered by Radio.com, Last.fm and MP3.com, and expansive social integration all the while showcasing the work of songwriters.

Visitors to metrolyrics.com will experience the following developments:
? Expertly sourced editorial material from leading CBS RADIO music stations on everything from the biggest names in the news, the hottest events and latest gossip, and exclusive interviews prominently featured on the lyrics pages.  Text, photos and video accompany the original posts;
? Links to personalized streaming radio stations and recommendations for similar artists reflecting a user?s current search results and based on ?scrobbling? technology proprietary to Last.fm.  With feedback from millions of registered users, and information culled from more than 600 services that scrobble, Last.fm provides the most accurate insight into what listeners truly want to hear.
? Lead franchise posts on the homepage to coincide with specific artists or song lyrics based on content submitted by users, created by the artists themselves or produced by the CBS Interactive Music Group.
? Access to free MP3.com downloads of the day from artists across pop, rock, urban and country.  Unsigned bands, rising indie stars and top name groups can all be found on the pages of the original digital music download source.
