OSHA Slaps ERI With $91K Fine

Indiana officials have handed down a fine of $91,500 to ERI for an April accident that killed two ERI employees that were installing a tower. Twenty-nine-year-old Ernesto Garcia of Laredo, and 32-year-old Paul Aliff of Mesquite, Texas, fell over 300 feet while working on a 500-foot-tall radio tower near Colburn.

ERI Vice President of Marketing Bill Harland told Radio Ink the company does not agree with the OSHA fine and plans to fight it.  "ERI Installations, Inc. regrets this terrible accident and mourns the tragic loss of our employees.  The cause of the accident remains under forensic investigation; therefore, we dispute and are now formally contesting IOSHA's findings and conclusions."

The Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration says the two ERI employees weren't provided adequate fall protection, that a basket used to hoist personnel wasn't designed by a qualified person and that equipment load limits weren't properly marked.
