Radio One Updates Guidance. Thumbs Up For Q2

Radio One Updates Guidance. Thumbs Up For Q2

Radio One says its core radio revenues for the second quarter 2011 are pacing up mid to high single digits compared to the same period in 2010. CEO Alfred Liggins said: "Q2 is historically our biggest quarter for radio revenues, so it is encouraging that we are pacing strongly compared to prior year. May and June pacings have been strengthening over the past few weeks and both months are now pacing up double-digits. This data is helpful in the context of the full year guidance that we have previously provided, and which we continue to affirm."

Does Radio Do Enough to Promote Itself?

In a recent Radio Ink article Katz Radio President Mark Gray said radio does a very poor job of promoting itself. We thought that was an interesting statement made by someone in a position to know. So, we went around the the industry, talking to other people in a position to know, and asked them if they also believed we, as an industry, were not out there enough tooting our own horn. Those interviews will appear in the April 4th issue of Radio Ink magazine featuring Cumulus CEO Lew Dickey on the cover.

New York Times Highlights Efforts to Save KUSF in San Fran

When it announced plans to sell off 34 year old KUSF back in January the University of San Fransisco set off a series of events, perhaps, it was not expecting. Station volunteers have been rallying and protesting and raising money every since to try to keep the community station on the air. The plan was to change the delivery method of KUSF to online only and sell the station. It's become a bit of a headache, to say the least, for the University.

How long they listen, where they listen, what ads they respond to, what they like or dislike about your playlist? It can all be done according to Green.

Paper: "Without Public Radio, Alaska Has Nothing."

The Miami Herald has an interesting piece on what happens in Alaska if Congress cuts funding to NPR. The Herald piece points out that outside some of the country's most populated areas a public radio station might be all you hear. And in Alaska, that station might be airing a fishing report, a school board meeting, happy birthday wishes to local residents or even a tsunami warning.
