Radio Reaction to Schiller Firing Mixed Across the Country.

Now that Vivian Schiller is gone and the winds of controversy continue to swirl around NPR, we wanted to know what GM's and other radio people around the country were thinking. And, the reaction is pretty mixed. One NPR affiliate GM in the midwest said in the grand scheme of things, this is a blip. "Senator Jim DeMint says this doesn't change anything, NPR should be defunded" the GM said. "Other than that, we worry about what's going on in our local community. Jobs. The economy.The local issues." Others had much stronger feelings about the mess at the mother ship.

Kansas City Radio Legend Mike Murphy Dies of Stroke

Murphy suffered a stroke at his Kansas City home around 3 p.m. Wednesday and passed away a few hours later. For over 45 years, Murphy worked for many different stations in Kansas City. He retired from KCMO Talk Radio in 2004. He loved to talk about U.F.O's on his show. Murphy is well known in the city for bringing back the St. Patrick's Day parade which started as a stunt in 1973. It is now one of the largest St. Patrick Day parades in the country. In 2005, the parade established the annual Mike Murphy Honorary Irishman of the Year award in his honor. Murphy's other legacy is co-founding the downtown cattle drive.

FCC Slaps Two $7K Fines on Same Guy at Two Different Stations For Same Reason.

The first fine of $7K is levied on Media Associates, the owner of KBJM(AM), Lemmon, South Dakota. The violation. Failing to timely file a license renewal application. The second fine of $7K goes to KNDC(AM) in North Dakota. Both stations are owned by Michael J. Schweitzer. The violation. Failing to file a timely license renewal.

Arbitron Changes 13-Year Old Policy Defining Metro Survey Areas

According to the company, "the new criterion for determining if a county qualifies to be in the Metro is based on a 70-point criterion, which replaces the 55 percent listening/15 percent commuting criteria that had been in place since 1998."

Renda Bags Soft AC Format for Classic Rock in Jacksonville.

WSOS are the calls for Renda in Jacksonville. The flip will feature songs from the 70's and 80's and target 35 to 54 year old men primarily under the moniker "Classic Rock 94.1 WSOS". The playlist will include artists like Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, Boston, Def Leppard, ZZ Top, Rush and Jacksonville's Favorite Sons Lynard Skynyrd.

In the 18 months since it started developing Digital Callout and Library testing, Kelly Music Research's newest innovation has tested a lot of songs. Now over 1,000,000 surveyed. On Monday, Cyntha, a female radio listener in Knoxville, TN recorded the one-millionth score when she rated Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" a 3 on the five point scale on Kelly's digital testing platform. Cyntha will receive a special gift for being number 1,000,000.
