Jacobs: Public Radio Listeners Are the Best Educated on the Planet.

Jacobs: Public Radio Listeners The Are Most Educated Listeners on The Planet.

Jacobs Media and the Public Radio Program Directors Association have released the results from their latest national web poll survey. The poll consisted of over 21,000 respondents from more than 40 public radio stations across the U.S. This is the third year the survey has been done by the two groups. Jacobs Media President Fred Jacobs says "more than 8 in 10 respondents have a bachelor's degree. Nearly half have earned an advanced degree. Compare that to our most recent Rock Tech Survey, where only a third have a bachelor's degree or better. Thus, my conclusion that they're the most educated radio listeners on the planet".

KKGO Celebrates 52 Years. All Under Same Owner.

Freelance writer Richard Wagoner has penned a piece about the longevity and only 3 formats at KKGO. That's 2 more formats than ownership changes. "Last week marked a major accomplishment: the 52nd anniversary of the day KKGO (105.1 FM) went on the air. No, KKGO wasn't the first FM station to begin broadcasting in Los Angeles; that distinction belongs to KRTH, which began life in August, 1941 as K45LA. KKGO, which launched Feb. 18, 1959 is significant for another landmark reason: It has been owned and operated by the same person since Day One".

Democrats and Republicans Fighting Over Radio Ads

According to the Associated press Democratic Attorney General Gary King is investigating whether Republican Governor Susana Martinez is allowed to use her leftover campaign money for radio ads. The ads being played are promoting her drive to end driver's licenses for illegal immigrants. The republican governor told the AP that "her office has concluded that state law allows the governor to use campaign funds for the advertising. Common Cause of New Mexico says the governor violated campaign finance laws restricting how campaign money can be spent. The group says the ads are really lobbying and not an election expense.

New York GM Says "Radio Jobs Will be Lost if Congress Cuts CPB Funding"

Your Comments Still Coming About NPR

General managers all around the country are organizing to defend the threat being made by Republicans in the House of Representatives to defund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The CPB receives about $420 million from the federal government. The reasons for taking away the money are many, including, accusations that the CPB is too left leaning or that other TV and Radio stations do not receive tax dollars so why should the CPB. In its current form, the bill would withdraw any obligation on the part of Congress to fund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

While, it would have been awesome if all the responses were positive and supportive about our radio stations, it seems as if many listeners not satisfied with what we are doing.
