As the debate over performance royalty fees continues between the NAB and the musicFIRST coalition, it appears radio stations and the artists they play continue to experience a win-win relationship. This past Saturday night in Tampa Florida, Zac Brown stood before a microphone decked out in his wool cap inside a jam-packed Raymond James stadium and before playing a single song and thanked country radio.

Sometimes you have to wonder how predictions are made so far in advance. 4 years from now can be an eternity. Especially in the online world where things change so rapidly. The latest BIA research report says online advertising will hit $42 billion in 2015. That's double the dollar amount that was spent in 2010.

Playing off Arbitron and Edison research the paper says "radio stations are receiving a surprisingly strong signal from audiences and the financial markets this year, even as they face intensifying competition from satellite and Web-based audio services including Sirius XM Satellite Radio XM and Pandora."

Former Radio Station Owner Barry Ackerley Dies at Age 76.

The Ackerley Group owned billboards, TV and radio stations in six states. In 2001 the company sold to to Clear Channel for $495 million in stock. Ackerley also owned the Seattle Supersonic NBA franchise for 18 years. He bought the team in 1983. Ackerley was one of the first owners to broadcast games on radio and TV stations he owned.

Ohio Non-Profit Station Goes Silent After Thieves Steal Everything.

WCYC-LP 105.1 FM in London, OH is down after thieves stole three soundboards, three microphones, three headphones, speakers, all of the station's equipment. Sport Director Rick Hartman tells NBC-TV in Columbus he rushed to the station when he heard static and he found a mess. "Everything basically we use to produce our radio sound is gone."

KMVI Tower in Hawaii Comes Tumbling to the Ground

It was actually a planned demolition to make way for a new, shorter tower for the radio station that made its first broadcast 64 years ago. According to a report in the Maui News the 15 year old tower was experiencing a little wear and tear, especially at the top. The toppled tower was 450 feet tall.

Radio Industry Vet Arthur Constantine And His Wife Die in Motorcycle Accident

Constantine and his wife were involved in an accident with a New Jersey State Police office who was responding to another accident. The two were riding on a motorcycle when the accident took place. Constantine's wife Lisa Schub was flown to Cooper University Hospital in Camden where she later died. She was 53. The accident occurred at 10:30AM on Saturday. The trooper sustained minor injuries in the crash and was treated and released from a local hospital. The accident is still under investigation.

Clear Channel Radio Sales Promotes Robert Schachter.

Clear Channel Radio Sales, a division of the Katz Media Group, has promoted Robert Schachter to Director of Clear Channel Traffic, National Sales, in New York. He will lead the group in conjunction with Robert Gad in Los Angeles. Schachter originally joined CCRS in 2001 to help launch the Traffic Sales group, which was named Premiere Traffic at the time.
