All Eyes On Las Vegas This Week

The annual National Association of Broadcasters Convention is underway in Las Vegas as broadcasters from all over the world come to Nevada to see the latest in technology and vendor equipment. They will also attend keynote speeches, sessions and panels hoping to get an edge on the competition. This morning NAB CEO Gordon Smith will open the convention which will be followed by keynoter James Cameron and an award given to former NAB CEO Eddie Fritts.

BIA/Kelsey Predicts More Selling of Stations For The Remainder of 2011.

While it is still very difficult to secure enough debt financing for many medium and small market radio deals, the attitude toward radio station acquisitions is slowly turning to the positive, according to BIA/Kelsey. "Some of the financing details still have to be worked out, but there are encouraging signs they will be. The results from this activity should be some pickup in station sales with the 2011 totals within the range seen in earlier years. And groups that have wanted to reduce or increase their presence in the industry may soon get the chance."

Clear Channel Hires Gary Marince Away From Arbitron

Marince will be joining Clear Channel in the newly created position of Senior Vice President for Research and Development effective April 18th. Marince will be working with the various divisions of Clear Channel Radio, including its 850-station radio stations and its the digital group to provide analytics and gain a better understanding of the company's audience across all platforms.

Dot-coms are aggressively developing sites and expanding local sales staffs. Several traditional media outlets have successfully developed HyperLocal sites and are enjoying significant revenues." INKY Award Winners Announced for Media Covering Media Technology.

The INKYs, awards for media covering media technology, were announced last night during The INKYs reception awards ceremony and reception held at the Marriott Suites Las Vegas during the NAB Show. Lois Chooljian from Radio Ink magazine was named Kick Butt Sales Rep of the year. Nominees were allowed to be submitted by any industry person at no charge during the nomination process at the beginning of 2011.
