High Prices Spawn Gas Giveaway Promotions

High Prices Spawn Gas Giveaway Promotions

As we get ready for another summer, higher gas prices are grabbing the national news headlines once again. It's an annual ritual that gas prices move north as more Americans get ready to hit the roads for vacation. Some stations across the country are using those high gas prices to their advantage, like Townsquare Media's KTYL in Tyler Texas.

Pandora Creator Opens Up To Radio Ink

In the upcoming (5/2) issue of Radio Ink magazine, Pandora creator Tim Westergren discusses the privacy issue, traditional radio and personalized radio among many other topics in our exclusive interview. Here's a quote from the issue as Westergren differentiates over-the-air radio from Internet radio. "Unlike traditional radio stations that broadcast the same content at the same time to all of their listeners, we enable each of our listeners to create up to 100 personalized stations."

Does Your Website Suck?

Convergence 2011 is now only 24 days away. One of our great panels this year will be a professional look at your station website and what you can do to improve it and integrate tools you need to compete in 2011. Our first conference in 1999 told you that you needed a website when most stations didn't even have one. Now we take you to the next level to understand how the website has evolved, beyond just a simple site to include social media and other platforms.
Non-Discrimination Clause Can Work

Non-Discrimination Clause Can Work

In his April 20 Commentary "Defining Discrimination: Has the FCC Gone Too Far?" Radio Ink Publisher Eric Rhoads questioned the viability of the FCC's advertising nondiscrimination rule. The rule requires broadcasters to include a nondiscrimination clause in sales contracts, and to certify at license renewal that they have observed this clause and, thus, have not knowingly taken discriminatory advertising. David Honig, Executive Director of the Minority Media & Telecommunications Council offered up this response to Eric.

SBS Files For Reverse Stock Split.

SBS Files For Reverse Stock Split.

Looking to prevent a delisting Spanish Broadcasting System is asking shareholders to approve a 1-for-5 reverse stock split. The potential reverse split would cover both Class A and Class B stock "of not less than 1-for-5 and not more than 1-for-10." Months ago, SBS was warned that it was dangerously close to being de-listed. SBS CEO Raul Alercon has appealed the plan to delist and that appeal will be heard in May.

Chaos At International Radio Stations

Radio stations outside the United States have been dealing with issues most of us never have to worry about, extreme violence. Recently, stations in several countries have come under attack, some even ending with killings. Here are just a couple in the news as of late.
