December 5, 2011: Arbitron releases highlights from the latest RADAR report, which shows radio with about 241.3 million listeners age 12 and up each week -- 1.4 million more than in the December 2010 report. The new number represents 93 percent of the U.S. 12+ population.
The number of 12-17-year-old listeners comes in at 22.8 million in the latest RADAR; that's 92 percent of that group, steady with the year-ago numbers. Radio also reaches 93.4 percent of 18-34s, up slightly from December of last year.
Additionally, the latest RADAR numbers show a "significant increase" in Hispanic listeners, up by nearly 1 million year-over-year, with radio reaching 95 percent of Hispanics 12 and older. The number of Hispanic 18-34 listeners grew by nearly 300,000, and the number of black (non-Hispanic) listeners grew by almost 240,000.
The December 2011 RADAR report also "demonstrates radio's ability to attract an affluent, educated audience," says Arbitron. Radio reaches more than 132 million weekly listeners with household incomes of more than $75,000, and about 40.8 million college graduates 18 to 49, as well as about 26 million adults ages 25-54 with both a college degree and a household income of more than $75,000 each week.
