NPR Wins Five NABJ Salute To Excellence Awards

NPR News has won five National Association of Black Journalists 2011 Salute to Excellence National Media Awards for best radio program, commentaries, feature reporting and interactive news. Winners include the news-talk show Tell Me More and host Michel Martin?s weekly commentary series, ?Can I Just Tell You?; a multimedia piece tracking Haiti?s recovery from the devastating earthquake; and feature reports on singer Donny Hathaway and Civil Rights activist Dorothy Height. The Salute to Excellence National Media Awards recognize journalism that best addresses and covers the African and/or African-American experience.

Additionally, NPR Member stations in Illinois, New York and North Carolina were honored separately for their work. Each station received four awards with WBEZ Chicago being recognized for its public affairs, investigative and news reporting; WNYC New York winning in documentary, news, sports and feature categories; and WUNC North Carolina taking home honors in sports, feature, news and public affairs coverage.
