The Virginia Tech Department of Athletics and IMG, the school's multimedia rights partner, have announced the hiring of Jon Laaser as "The Voice of the Hokies." Laaser most recently had been an announcer with the Richmond Flying Squirrels baseball, Virginia Commonwealth basketball, and high school games for the Hampton Roads Sports Network. He replaces Bill Roth, who had been Virginia Tech's play-by-play announcer for over 25 years, and who now calls games for UCLA.
