Is EAS A Big Waste of Time. (AUDIO)

There's been a lot of discussion about the upcoming test of the EAS (Emergency Alert System). President Obama is expected to test the system. The date of that test has not yet been announced. Some are calling it a political move by the President. Others are saying he's the President, let him test the system. Some radio station engineers are questioning whether or not this system is needed. If nothing else Radio excels in delivering local news, especially emergency community content.

RAB Boss Tells Radio Ink Core Advertisers Returning With "A Fervor" (AUDIO)

Radio Advertising Bureau CEO Jeff Haley told Radio Ink magazine there is a lot of optimism in the marketplace. "Radio is still the primary medium of choice for the top 5 advertisers in our industry. And those advertisers are: Automotive, Television, Grocery, Financial Services and Department stores.

What About Local? What is Haley's Prediction on Local Ad Revenue? (AUDIO)

There's always a lot of emphasis placed on national ad spending when the RAB releases its quarterly spending numbers. However, there are a lot of medium and small market General Managers and Sales Managers who will never see that money. We all know that  national ad spending dries up when a certain arbitron ranking is reached. It's nice to know the bigger markets are making gains but what about the other guys? We asked RAB Boss Jeff Haley to tell us what he hears from other RAB members in those other markets.

Talk War Brewing in Buffalo

WECK- AM PD Brad Riter read a 20 minute monologue on the air describing his station as the local, talk-radio alternative to WBEN 930 AM and WGR 550 AM. This is me, effectively, as program director of WECK, declaring war on Entercom and corporate radio in Buffalo. We will win. We are little. We are local. We will beat you.

Do You Want A Great Life?

by Ed Ryan About 2 weeks ago I was lucky enough to land a job, for the 2nd time, at the best company I've ever worked for. Hired at 33, off the selling streets of North Carolina, I spent four years as editor of Radio Ink until the opportunity to run a cluster of Radio stations came along. I only left Radio Ink because I knew I had to be a General Manager at least once before I died.
