After Losing Job, Kaplan Apologizes

2-9-2012

As we reported yesterday, Scott Kaplan has been fired by a Sports station in San Diego, from a job he held for over ten years. Kaplan referred to TV analyst Andrea Lloyd as a 'beast', 'monster' and 'Sasquatch of a woman." In an interview with U-T San Diego Kaplan addressed his comments. "I?m saying I hurt her feelings, whether it was on the radio, whether it was in the newspaper. I hurt this person?s feelings. She?s human. I?m human. She has a great reputation as an Olympian and as a professional broadcaster. And I feel like I have a great reputation as a professional broadcaster. This is hurting my reputation, but who cares? I?m not the victim here. The victim is Andrea Lloyd. And I need to make that right.?

Kaplan went on to say, ?I?m not getting my job back at 1090,? Kaplan said. ?That ship has sailed. But to do the right thing is to contact Andrea, and explain to her that I realize what a mistake I made and how remorseful I am. Will I look for another job? Yes. Do I think this is career-ending? Absolutely not. But I do think the top priority and the top thing I need to do is make things right. If you?re a mensch, if you?re a good person, if you?ve acknowledged that what you?ve done is wrong and you accept responsibility, then this is the right thing to do.?

Loyd had no comment on teh situation.
