Family Of Late Philly Radio Host Sues Hospital

3-17-14

58-year-old Philadelphia radio host Steven Collins died in early September after arriving at the hospital complaining of symptoms of a heart attack. According to the Philadelphia Daily News, Collins' family has filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against Chestnut Hill Hospital, alleging hospital staff failed to immediately diagnose and treat the heart attack that killed Collins.

An attorney for the family said, instead of treating Collins immediately with the standard blood-thinning and artery-opening drugs like aspirin, nitroglycerin, and heparin, an emergency-room doctor ordered a drug that lowered his blood pressure so much that his heart couldn't recover. The attorney also said the doctor failed to immediately consult a cardiologist, diagnose an acute arterial blood clot, or order a follow-up electrocardiogram and drugs that could have saved Collins.

Collins was director of Urban marketing and external relations, and host of Philly Speaks on WRNB (Old School 100.3)/Philadelphia.
