Super agent Leigh Steinberg was a keynote speaker on opening day of Radio Ink's Sports Radio Conference in San Diego. After he wowed the crowd with story after story about his dealings with some of the most well-known athletes on the planet, he offered some advice on how sports talkers can be better at what they do. Steinberg has done 186 radio interviews over the past six weeks to promote his book, My 40-Year Career Making Deals and Changing the Game. So he's spoken to many hosts in our industry.
Steinberg's advice to radio hosts, be well informed. "In my case it helps when they've read the book. One of the best interviews I did was with Chris Russo. He knew everything about the book. He knew it in depth. Those people that educate themselves, have the facts, get it. Those discussions are on a different level." His other advice is similar to what he says to his athletes and it's regarding social media. "You are employed by your team (your radio station). You owe it to them to be coordinated. When you undercut that you have to understand what you are doing."
