From the start of the trading day Monday, if not before, the financial press was predicting a huge drop in the stock market, due to worries over the economy in China. The market did not disappoint. Not too long after the opening bell rang the Dow found its way down, losing over 1,000 points before crawling higher. By the end of the day the damage was not as bad as it was early on, but it was still bad. The Dow dropped 3.57% (588 points), The S&P was off 3.94% (77.68 points) and the NASDAQ fell 3.82% (180 points).
