NextMedia Texas Brightening Up The Holidays

12-16-2011

NextMedia's KLAK-FM is teaming up with the The McKinney Police Association to disperse of more than 500 toys to several local charities in the community, just in time for Christmas. The association handed off 400 toys to KLAK radio for its Angels of Care charity drive. KLAK promotions director Laura Villa said its share of toys will be given to families whose children are suffering from disabilities and are receiving care through Angels of Care Pediatric Home Health. The toys were delivered during the radio station's "Calling All Angels" marathon, which encouraged listener donations and provided information about the second annual charity drive, which runs through December 21st.

"It's an amazing feeling" Villa added. "We're grateful to everyone who has donated. As a radio station, we have a voice for these families and our community has always helped us whenever we needed it. These toys are great because now more people can focus on donating the things we need like coats, socks and underwear and things like that."

The toys were collected over the past two weekends at a softball tournament. One of the requirements for being able to play in the softball tournament is to bring at least one toy donation. One team in particular brought a trailer full of toys and bicycles and proved that a sporting event can be an effective way to get everyone involved, Butz said.
