Hofmann was the News Director for Neuhoff Media in Springfield at WFMB-AM (Sports Radio 1450) since 1998. He took a leave of absence in December to tend to his medical needs. Hofmann began his broadcasting career in Cape Girardeau and then worked in the Belleville area before moving to Springfield. His first job in Springfield was at 1450 WCVS in 1981, where he stayed until 1990. He left to work for United Cerebral Palsy Land of Lincoln before returning to radio at WFMB in 1998. Hofmann was only 60 years old.
