nielsen-logoPPM Data – Round One. Information for the November 2016 ratings period has been released for New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, Houston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Nassau-Suffolk (Long Island), Riverside, San Jose, and Middlesex-Somerset-Union. Nielsen Audio's November 2016 survey period covered October 6 – November 2. RadioInfo managing editor Mike Kinosian (Kinosian@RadioInfo.com) provides his "Takeaways" from these 12-PPM markets.
TWELVE TAKEAWAYS
1) New York – Trending 5.5 – 5.3 – 5.4 (6+) since August, CBS Radio classic hits-oldies WCBS-FM "New York's Greatest Hits" improves by one-half share to 5.9 (6+), progressing from fourth to second. One-half share ahead of WCBS-FM is iHeartMedia adult contemporary WLTW "106.7 Lite-FM," which is on top for the fourth straight time. "Lite-FM," however, is off three-tenths to 6.4 (6+), thus curtailing threeWCBS-FM successive up-trends (6.0 – 6.1 – 6.5 – 6.7, 6+). October's 6.7 was its highest 6+-share since March (also 6.7). A one-tenth increase in August enabled "Lite-FM" to halt four successive sweeps without an increase resulting in a cumulative loss of seven-tenths (6.7 – 6.5 – 6.4 – 6.4 – 6.0, 6+). A decrease of one-half share (2.2 – 1.7, 6+) drops iHeartMedia talker WOR out of the top 20 (#18 to #21). It is the lowest 6+-stat for the New York Mets flagship since March (also 1.7). The October tie at #15 between the market's two hot AC rivals is broken as Cumulus Media's WPLJ gains four-tenths (3.1, #13, 6+), but CBS Radio's WNEW "Fresh 102.7" drops four-tenths (2.3, #17). Up until November 2016, WPLJ had recorded a 6+-share between 2.0 – 2.9 (6+) for 22 successive sweeps. As mentioned above, the November sweep concluded November 2, several days before the November 8 presidential election – CBS Radio all-news outlet WINS picks up four-tenths (4.3 – 4.7, 6+) to jump from seventh to fifth, while co-owned similarly formatted WCBS-AM drops one-tenth (3.0 – 2.9, 6+), moving #12 to #14.
2) Los Angeles – After being off by two-tenths each in back-to-back sweeps (5.8 – 5.6 – 5.4, 6+), iHeartMedia adult contemporary KOST "Coast 103.5" gains one-tenth (5.5, 6+) and is the market's kost xmas logotrendsetter for the thirteenth successive ratings period; "Coast" was a combined +.5 in July and August (5.3 – 5.4 – 5.8, 6+). Netting seven-tenths in the past three ratings periods (4.1 – 4.3 – 4.7 – 4.8, 6+), CBS Radio smooth AC KTWV "The Wave" checks in at #3, yet is actually down from second in October. Leapfrogging it is classic hits-oldies cluster-mate KRTH "K-Earth 101," which regains the four-tenths it lost the previous sweep (4.9 – 4.5 – 4.9, 6+). In advance of October's -.4, "K-Earth 101" had been up or flat the previous three monthlies (4.5 – 4.8 – 4.9 – 4.9, 6+). Three of the last five ratings periods have produced a 6+-share of 4.7 for iHeartMedia hot AC KBIG "My 104.3" (4.7 – 4.9 – 4.7 – 4.4 – 4.7, 6+), which jumps from sixth to fourth. Busting out of a four-way logjam at #32 and moving to #30 is ESPN Radio's KSPN "ESPN 710" (.8 – 1.2, +.4, 6+), the AM flagship of the NFL's newly relocated (Los Angeles to St. Louis back to Los Angeles) Los Angeles Rams. Falling from third to sixth is Univision Radio Spanish contemporary KLVE "K-Love 107.5" (4.1, -.4, 6+), which curtails four straight gains for a net +.9 (3.6 – 3.9 – 4.0 – 4.2 – 4.5, 6+).  Owing to a decline of four-tenths (2.3, 6+), Mount Wilson FM Broadcasters' KKGO has its string of consecutive up or flat trends halted at five (2.1 – 2.3 – 2.4 – 2.4 – 2.7 – 2.7, 6+) as "Go Country 105" slips from #15 to #17. Although steady at #19, CBS Radio alternative KROQ is without an increase for the seventh successive sweep (3.1 – 2.9 – 2.9 – 2.4 – 2.3 – 2.3 – 2.2 – 2.2, 6+) for a combined -.9. Its cross-town rival – iHeartMedia's KYSR-FM "Alt 98.7" – is up four-tenths since September (3.1 – 3.2 – 3.5, 6+) and advances from tenth to eighth. This time last month, Spanish Broadcasting System Spanish contemporary KXOL "Mega 96.3" replaced regional Mexican sibling KLAX "97.9 La Raza" in the top 20. Now, however, "97.9 La Raza" recoups October's -.2 (2.3 – 2.1 – 2.3) and jumps from #21 to #17, while "Mega 96.3" is flat at 2.2 (6+), remaining at #19.
3) Chicago – Exuberant celebration by Chicago Cubs fans worldwide continues as the NL Central team ended its 108-year World Series drought by defeating the Cleveland Indians in this year's Fall Classic. Giddiest among its partisans are executives of the team's flagship – CBS Radio-owned sports outlet WSCR "670 The Score" – which trots out a massive +1.9 (4.2 – 6.1, 6+) to vault from sixth toWSCR - Cubs second. No other station in the 12 PPM-markets listed here had a greater October 2016 – November 2016 (6+) increase than WSCR. The 6+-sports share in the "Windy City" bloats by an additional eight-tenths as ESPN Radio's WMVP "1000 AM ESPN Chicago" is not only up for the fifth straight time (1.4 – 1.5 – 1.6 – 1.7 – 2.1 – 2.9, 6+), it rockets from #22 to #10. Inching up from #14 to #13, Hubbard Broadcasting adult contemporary WSHE is within 2.0 – 2.9 range (6+) for the 31st straight monthly (2.4 – 2.6, +.2, 6+). Even though it returns three-tenths of October's +.8, CBS Radio all-news WBBM-AM nonetheless repeats at #1. The Chicago Bears key station was tied for the lead in September and had been on top from January through May. One-share is the difference between ranker #9 and ranker #24 (6+). As a result of a one-half share decrease (3.2 – 2.7, 6+), Cumulus Media-owned WLS-FM exits the top ten (#9 to #12); it is the lowest 6+-showing for "Chicago's Classic Hits" since January's 2.6. Following six straight up or flat trends that yielded a +.6 (1.8 – 1.8 – 1.8 – 1.8 – 2.0 – 2.3 – 2.4, 6+), WRME "MeTV 87.7" drops two-tenths (2.2, 6+) to tumble from #14 to #19. Among the stations affected by the WSCR juggernaut is Hubbard Broadcasting hot AC WTMX "101.9 The Mix," which despite a +.4 (4.9 – 5.3, 6+), finishes at #4 – after being in third-place the past seven sweeps. Notwithstanding a loss of two tenths to 2.9 (6+), iHeartMedia's similarly programmed WLIT returns to the top ten (#11 to #10), but "My-FM" is without an increase for the ninth successive month. In that stretch, "My-FM" has eroded by exactly 11 shares (13.9 – 4.7 – 4.5 – 4.0 – 3.9 – 3.9 – 3.7 – 3.6 – 3.5 – 3.2 – 3.1 – 2.9, 6+). In addition to the fact that the market's 6+ country share erodes by one-half share, the two format players each lose six rankers: CBS Radio's WUSN "US-99 Chicago's Hottest Country" is off for the fourth straight time (3.0 – 2.9 – 2.8 – 2.5 – 2.2, #13 to #19, 6+) and iHeartMedia's WEBG "Big 95.5 Chicago's New Country" drops two-tenths (2.2 – 2.0 #18 to #24).
4) San Francisco – Spoken-word stations hold the top three spots in the Bay Area for the ninth successive sweep. After being dislodged from the top spot and moving to the runner-up position in October, kqedKQED roars back with a full-share gain and reclaims the lead. Moreover, the Northern California Public Broadcasting outlet is without a loss for the sixth straight time for a cumulative +2.1(4.8 – 4.9 – 5.3 – 5.7 – 5.9 – 5.9 – 6.9, 6+). Trending 2.3 – 2.9 – 2.6 (6+) since August, Cumulus Media talker KSFO displays a one-half share gain to 3.1 (6+) and climbs from #15 to #11. Unchanged at #3, co-owned KNBR – the flagship of both MLB's Giants and the NFL's 49ers – continues its rollercoaster ride with a -.5 (July); another -.5 (August); -.8 (September); +.8 (October); and now a -.7 (6.7 – 6.2 – 5.7 – 4.9 – 5.7 – 5.0, 6+). October's gain of eight-tenths halted four successive declines for "The Sports Leader" which resulted in a combined loss of nearly two full-shares (6.8 – 6.7 – 6.2 – 5.7 – 4.9, 6+). Prior to slipping to third in September, KNBR had been #1 since April. Following three consecutive negative trends which resulted in a -.6 (2.4 – 2.1 – 1.9 – 1.8, 6+), Spanish Broadcasting System regional Mexican KRZZ posted a +.4 in October, but it slips by six-tenths (2.2 – 1.6, 6+) and "93.3 La Raza" exits the top 20 (#16 to #21). Unchanged at #4, CBS Radio CHR KMVQ "Now 99.7 New Hit Music" is off by one-tenth to 4.1 (6+), ending six successive up or flat sweeps that netted at +1.2 (3.0 – 3.0 – 3.5 – 3.8 – 3.8 – 4.0 – 4.2, 6+).
5) Dallas – Deadlocked at #8 in October with 3.5 shares (6+), CBS Radio adult hits KJKK "Jack-FM – Playing What We Want" and Cumulus Media talker WBAP mirror each other with gains of six-tenths to 4.1. The two stations are now connected at #7. Improving by one-half share each are Univision Radio regional Mexican KLNO "Que Buena 94.1" (fourth to third, 6+) and Cumulus Media sports outletKJKK KTCK "The Ticket" (#13 to #9). This is the third straight increase for both KLNO (4.6 – 4.7 – 4.8 – 5.3, 6+) and "The Ticket" (2.7 – 2.9 – 3.1 – 3.6, 6+). In a bit of an oddity, this marks the fourth straight month that four-tenths of a share separates the top three finishers. The October tie at #1 between CBS Radio classic hits-oldies KLUV and iHeartMedia CHR KHKS "Kiss-FM" is broken but neither of those stations claims the top spot in November. Instead, that honor goes to Cumulus Media's country formatted KPLX "The Wolf" (5.4 – 5.7, +.3, 6+), leaping to the top from #3. Prior to its -.4 in October, "The Wolf" had gone without a decrease the previous seven sweeps (4.3 – 4.4 – 4.7 – 4.7 – 4.7 – 5.1 – 5.7 – 5.8, 6+) and was a cumulative +1.5 since February. September was the first time since May 2014 (when it registered a 6.6, 6+) that "The Wolf" occupied the top spot. Meanwhile, after three successive months at 3.5 (6+), co-owned and similarly programmed KSCS posted four straight 3.3 showings (6+). "New Country 96.3" adds three-tenths (3.6, 6+) to move from a tie at #10 back to #9. Regarding October's co-leaders, "Kiss" shifts to second (5.8 – 5.5, -.3, 6+) and KLUV, off by seven-tenths (5.8 – 5.1, 6+), slips to fourth. Steady at #5, iHeartMedia hot AC KDMX "Now 102.9" is without a decrease for the seventh straight time (3.7 – 3.7 – 3.8 – 3.8 – 4.0 – 4.3 – 4.3 – 4.4, 6+). Format rival – CBS Radio-owned KVIL has an up/down pattern since May of 2.6 – 3.1 – 2.9 – 3.1 – 2.8 – 3.1 – 2.7 (6+) and spins from #13 to #16. After eight straight gains for a combined +1.9 (1.8 – 2.0 – 2.2 – 2.5 – 2.9 – 3.3 – 3.4 – 3.6 – 3.7, 6+), co-owned KRLD-FM "105.3 The Fan" regresses by one-half share to 3.2 (6+). The flagship of the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys departs the top ten (#7 to #12).
6) Houston – A full-share gain by Radio One urban AC KMJQ, coupled with a six-tenths decline by Univision Radio regional Mexican KLTN "102.9 Estereo Latino"(8.0 – 7.4, 6+) has "Majic 102.1 The kmjq logoReal Sound of H-Town"(third-place tie to second) just three-tenths behind KLTN. First for the fourth successive sweep, KLTN was +1.3 in October. The 8.0 it registered in October is the highest 6+-share in its PPM history. A -.3 in September by "Estereo Latino" curtailed five successive gains that yielded a combined increase of more than two full-shares (4.9 – 5.4 – 6.3 – 6.4 – 6.9 – 7.0, 6+). This is the third straight up or flat trend for "Majic" (5.9 – 5.9 – 6.1 – 7.1, 6+). Off by -1.7 since July (5.9 – 5.2 – 4.7 – 4.2, 6+), Cox Media Group country KKBQ "The New 93-Q" regains seven-tenths to 4.9 (seventh to sixth, 6+). Before slipping to #7 in October, "The New Q" had been at #5 the previous four sweeps. The HD3 side channel of iHeartMedia's KODA is up one-half share (.2 – .7, #25, 6+), while its HD2 channel appears in print with a .2 (#33, 6+). Even though the main FM signal – adult contemporary KODA – improves in back-to-back sweeps (6.5 – 6.6 – 6.9, 6+), "Sunny 99.1" must settle for a second-place to third-place move; "Sunny 99.1" ranked first in 23 consecutive ratings periods before dipping to second in August. Relinquishing the four-tenths it gained in October (plus two-tenths more), Univision Radio Spanish adult hits KOVE "Mas Variedad" (4.0 – 3.4, -.6, 6+) spirals from a three-way tie at #8 to #13. Regressing by one-half share each are Cumulus Media CHR KRBE "Houston's #1 Hit Music Station" (#12 to #14, 6+) and CBS Radio hot AC KHMX "Houston's Mix 96.5" (3.0 – 2.5, #15 to #18, 6+). This is the fourth straight decline for KRBE for a combined -1.4 (4.7 – 4.6 – 4.2 – 3.8 – 3.3, 6+). Flat at #21, CBS Radio KILT-AM "Sports Radio 610" drops two-tenths to 2.0 (6+), halting three straight positive trends for a combined +1.3 (.9 – 1.0 – 1.4 – 2.2, 6+); 2.2 in October 2016 was the best 6+-performance in one year (2.4, October 2015) for the Houston Texans' flagship.
7) Philadelphia – Posting trends of 6.0 – 6.4 – 6.3 (August – September – October, 6+), iHeartMedia urban AC WDAS-FM "Philly's Best R&B and Classic Soul" dials up a +.6 to 6.9 (6+) to advance from third to second. Up or flat for the third straight time (4.4 – 4.4 – 4.6 – 5.1, 6+), CBS Radio all-news KYW progresses from eighth to sixth and has its best 6+-share since April (also 5.1). After a combined +.8 (6.8 – 7.4wdas-fm – 7.6, August – September – October, 6+), Jerry Lee Radio adult contemporary WBEB "More FM" is off by one-tenth (7.5, 6+), but is #1 for the third consecutive monthly. The +.6 in September halted three successive downward moves for a combined loss of one full-share (7.8 – 7.4 – 6.9 – 6.8, 6+); "More FM" occupied the market's top spot for 12 consecutive survey periods (August 2015 through June 2016). Sputtering by eight-tenths (4.9 – 4.1, 6+), iHeartMedia-owned WRFF "Radio 104.5 Philly's Alternative" dips from seventh to ninth; 4.1 is its lowest 6+-share since February's 3.8. A drop of one-tenth to 4.9 (6+) stops three straight improvements for CBS Radio's WIP-FM that netted a +1.3 (3.7 – 3.8 – 4.0 – 5.0, 6+); the Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles flagship slips from sixth to seventh. Steady at #10, iHeartMedia urban contemporary WUSL "Power 99" is down or flat for the fourth successive time (4.9 – 4.9 – 4.7 – 4.1 – 4.0, 6+).
8) Atlanta – By hauling out a +.7 (5.2 – 5.9, 6+), Radio One urban contemporary WHTA "Hot 107.9" climbs from third to a second-place tie. It is anchored there with its format rival – CBS Radio's WVEE WHTA"V-103" – which sputters by one-half share (6.4 – 5.9, 6+). The two urban contemporary outlets trail Cox Media Group talker WSB-AM (10.1 – 9.9, -.2, 6+) by four full-shares. Down by one-half share in September, WSB-AM more than made up for it by boasting a +1.2 in October. It holds the top spot for the tenth straight month. Its 10.1 in October marked the first time in the station's PPM-history that WSB-AM broke into double-digits (6+). Notching gains of one-half share each are adult contemporary sibling WSB-FM "B-98.5" (4.9, seventh to sixth, 6+) and iHeartMedia regional Mexican WBZY "El Patron 105.3" (1.0 – 1.5, #21, 6+). "B-98.5" was off by a combined one-half share since August (4.9 – 4.7 – 4.4, 6+). Without a decrease since June for a combined +1.2 (2.3 – 2.5 – 3.0 – 3.5 – 3.5, 6+), public (City of Atlanta Board of Education) WABE forfeits six-tenths to 2.9, slipping from #15 to #16. Off by six-tenths as well is iHeartMedia-owned WUBL "94.9 The Bull – Atlanta's New Country Leader" (3.7 – 3.1, #13 to #15, 6+). Part of a three-way logjam at #11 (all with 3.7, 6+) are its country competitor, Cumulus Media's WKHX "Kicks 101.5," which was -1.4 in October and +1.3 in September; iHeartMedia-owned WWPR "Power 96.1" down for the third straight time (4.7 – 4.3 – 3.9 – 3.7, 6+); and Radio One gospel WPZE "Praise 102.5 – Atlanta's Inspiration Station (flat at 3.7, 6+). September's 5.2 was the most potent 6+-share for "Kicks 101.5" since April 2011 (5.2 as well). Without an increase for the third straight sweep (5.3 – 5.3 – 5.1 – 4.6, 6+), Salem Media Group contemporary Christian WFSH "104.7 The Fish" (fourth to seventh) has its weakest 6+-showing since April's 4.3. After being up or flat the past five sweeps (1.1 – 1.2 – 1.3 – 1.3 – 1.6 – 1.8, 6+), Clark Atlanta University jazz outlet WCLK drops three-tenths to 1.5 (6+) and exits the top 20 (#19 to #21).
9) Long Island – Following three straight declines that totaled a combined -.7 (6.7 – 6.4 – 6.2 – 6.0, 6+), iHeartMedia CHR WHTZ "Z-100" posts a gain of six-tenths to 6.6 (6+) and is #1 in Long Island for the tenth successive sweep. A -.3 in August erased four straight monthlies where "Z-100" was up or flat (5.8 – 5.8 – 5.9 – 6.1 – 6.7, 6+). In 3.0 – 3.9 range (6+) the past 14 ratings periods, Cox Media GroupWHTZowned WBAB is also up by six-tenths, progressing to 4.1 (6+) and "Long Island's Only Classic Rock" enters the top ten (#11 to #8). Its New York City rival – iHeartMedia's WAXQ "Q-104.3" picks up one-half share (3.1 – 3.6, 6+) and also cracks the top ten (#13 to #10). This is the 23rd straight sweep that Emmis rhythmic CHR WQHT "Hot 97" (#20 to #19) is in 2.0 – 2.9 range (2.2 – 2.4, +.2, 6+). Advancing from fourth to third, CBS Radio all-news WCBS-AM posts its fourth straight up or flat trend (3.5 – 3.6 – 4.0 – 4.6 – 4.6, 6+) and best 6+-stat in Long Island since February (also 4.6). On the heels of a +1.2 in October, co-owned WFAN-FM "The Fan" surrenders nine-tenths (5.5 – 4.6, 6+), as the New York Giants key station slides from second to third. Frozen on 3.5 (6+) in April, May, and June, iHeartMedia talker WOR dropped to 3.3 in July; rebounded with a one-half share increase in August; and – in October – recaptured the eight-tenths it lost in September (3.8 – 3.0 – 3.8, 6+). The seesaw though continues for the New York Mets flagship as it now sputters by nine-tenths to 2.9 and plummets from #9 to #15. Without a decrease since May for a net of +1.2 (3.3 – 3.3 – 4.1 – 4.1 – 4.3 – 4.5, 6+), CBS Radio classic hits-oldies WCBS-FM falters by seven-tenths to 3.8 and stumbles from fifth to ninth.
10) Riverside – Part of the five-straight positive or flat trends for KLVE include three successive 3.9 showings (6+) followed by it being locked on 4.0 (6+) in September and October. The Univision Radio klve logoSpanish contemporary outlet busts loose with a +1.4 to 5.4 (6+) to climb from sixth to fifth. The last time "K-LOVE 107.5" reached the five-share level (6+) in Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario was January (5.1). Bouncing back from a -.6 in October, regional Mexican sibling KSCA "Zona MX 101.9" (unchanged at #4) dials up a +.9 (4.6 – 5.4, 6+). Prior to an increase of eight-tenths in September, "Zona MX 101.9" was down or flat the previous three Inland Empire monthlies (5.5 – 4.7 – 4.4 – 4.4, 6+). In addition to notching its fifth successive up or flat trend (.5 – .7 – .7 – .8 – .8 – 1.3, 6+), San Bernardino Community College-owned KVCR (steady at #13) reaches the one-share level (6+) for the first time since February's 1.3. Unchanged at 7.5 (6+), Entravision Spanish adult hits KLYY "Jose" is #1 for the twelfth consecutive ratings period. Following a one-share increase in June, which halted back-to-back downward trends that produced a combined -.4, "Jose" fell by two-tenths in July but bounced back with a +.8 in August. Stymied at 2.9 (6+) in September and October, LC Media urban-rhythmic oldies KQIE "Old School 104.7" (seventh to eighth, 6+) sputters by six-tenths to 2.3, its lowest 6+-share since April (also 2.3). Regressing by one-half share each are Anaheim Broadcasting classic hits-oldies KOLA (6.6, 6+) and CBS Radio country outlet KFRG "K-Frog." In the runner-up slot for the fifth consecutive ratings period, KOLA had been up or flat the past six times for a net gain of +2.2 (4.9 – 4.9 – 5.6 – 6.5 – 6.8 – 6.9 – 7.1, 6+). "K-Frog" logged a +.9 in October (3.2 – 4.1 – 3.6, 6+) and was in 3.2 – 3.9 territory (6+) the previous five sweeps (3.9 – 3.5 – 3.2 – 3.4 – 3.2, 6+). Meanwhile, co-owned KXFG (#21 to #22) has a .1 for the ninth consecutive time.
11) San Jose – Tacking on seven-tenths to October's +.4 (1.6 – 2.0 – 2.7, 6+), Cumulus Media triple A KFOG "Music Matters" jumps from #19 to #13. There are one-half share gains each for Alpha Media hot AC KEZR "Mix 106.5," (fifth to third, 6+) and Univision Radio regional Mexican KSOL "Que Buena" (#11 to #8, 6+). After three successive up-trends that netted eight-tenths (4.6 – 4.9 – 5.2 – 5.4, 6+),kfog "Mix" surrendered a -1.2 in August; regained two-thirds of that loss in September (+.8); was -.6 in October; and is now +.5 in November (5.4 – 4.2 – 5.0 – 4.4 – 4.9, 6+). Stuck on 3.0 (6+) in June and July, "Que Buena" gained a combined seven-tenths in August and September; sputtered by one-half share in October; and regains one-half share in November (3.0 – 3.1 – 3.7 – 3.2 – 3.7, 6+). Up or flat for the fifth straight time for a net +.9 (3.4 – 3.8 – 4.1 – 4.3 – 4.3 – 4.3, 6+), Alpha Media-owned adult contemporary KBAY inches up from sixth to fifth. Not only is KCBS-AM (+1.0 in October, 6+) up for the fourth consecutive sweep netting a +2.5 (4.4 – 5.6 – 5.7 – 6.7 – 6.9, 6+), the CBS Radio all-news operation repeats at #1. It was deadlocked for the top spot in August and September with Univision Radio Spanish adult hits KBRG "100.3 Mas Variedad." Prior to October, the last time KCBS-AM crossed the six-share threshold in San Jose was May 2015 (6.5). A -1.2 takes Empire Broadcasting's KRTY "San Jose Hot Country 95.3" (fourth to eighth) to 3.7, its lowest 6+-share since June (also 3.7). Trending 5.3 – 5.1 – 5.3 (August – September – October, 6+), Cumulus Media's KNBR "The Sports Leader" sputters by seven-tenths to 4.6 (6+), dropping from third to fourth. In 3.3 – 3.9 range since May (3.3 – 3.7 – 3.8 – 3.9 – 3.8 – 3.8, 6+), CBS Radio CHR KMVQ "Now 99.7 New Hit Music" falters by one-half share and is back to 3.3 (eighth to tenth, 6+). Off by four-tenths, hot AC cluster-mate KLLC "Alice @ 97.3" ends four successive up or flat trends (2.2 – 2.3 – 2.3 – 2.4 – 2.5 6+) and drifts from #15 to #19.
12) Middlesex – It proves to be an active month for CBS Radio-owned classic hits-oldies WCBS-FM "New York's Greatest Hits," which is up one-half share in its New York City home base; off seven-tenths in WCBS-AMLong Island; and up six-tenths in this New Jersey market (3.6 – 4.2, 6+) to climb from tenth to eighth. WCBS-FM reaches the four-share level (6+) in Middlesex-Somerset-Union for the first time since April (4.4). Good news as well for co-owned all-news WCBS-AM, which picks up one-half share (3.3 – 3.8, 6+) and enters the top ten (#13 to #10). From February through October, WCBS-AM was in 3.0 – 3.4 range (6+). Despite being down a combined one-share in October and November (8.2 – 7.6 – 7.2, 6+), Townsquare Media talker WKXW is on top for the eleventh consecutive ratings period. In September, "New Jersey 101.5" wiped out an August -.6 with an increase of seven-tenths. Owing to a four-tenths gain in July, it halted four straight negative trends that had resulted in a combined -1.4 (9.1 – 8.9 – 8.5 – 8.1 – 7.7, 6+). As noted above, CBS Radio's WFAN "The Fan" and iHeartMedia talker WOR are each off by nine-tenths in Long Island. The two regress by seven-tenths each in Middlesex, with WFAN 4.1 – 3.4 (#8 to #12, 6+) and WOR 3.2 – 2.5 (#18, 6+). "The Fan" had put together eight consecutive up or flat monthlies (3.1 – 3.3 – 3.4 – 3.4 – 3.4 – 3.5 – 3.7 – 3.9 – 4.1, 6+) for a one full-share increase. The -.7 curtails three straight gains in Middlesex-Somerset-Union for WOR (1.7 – 2.1 – 2.2 – 3.2, 6+) that nearly doubled its 6+-share here. The New York Mets flagship slips from #14 to #18. Down or flat for the fifth consecutive sweep for a cumulative -1.6 (6.6 – 6.2 – 6.0 – 6.0 – 5.5 – 5.0, 6+), iHeartMedia classic rocker WAXQ "Q-104.3" slides from third to fourth. It is the lowest 6+-share in Middlesex for "Q-104.3" since January's 4.5. Meanwhile, this is the third successive negative trend for Cumulus Media's WNSH "94.7 Nash FM" (3.9 – 3.7 – 3.6 – 3.0, 6+), which plummets from #10 to #16.
