As you know we've been following the story of Cox Radio employee Chris Coleman. Chris lost his home, and nearly his family, when a tornado toppled his house while he was on the air in Birmingham. His family had just practiced a tornado drill the morning the twister ripped through the house crumpling it into a million little pieces. Coleman's wife and daughters had raced to the basement where they were found unharmed by a family member after the weather cleared. Many of you have sent in donations to help Chris and his family and he contacted us to get out his words of appreciation. |

On Friday after reporting Q1 revenue increased 7%, Clear Channel management told investors that Q2 has "limited visibility" and Q2 pacing was only up slightly. Clear Channel officials also said they were expecting the recovery to happen a little faster than it has. The Company reported revenues of $650 million in the first quarter of 2011, a 7% increase from the $609 million reported for the first quarter of 2010. On the radio side, revenue increased $17 million (3%). The company says the increase was "driven by increases of $10.6 million in local advertising and $7.4 million from digital, traffic and other revenue. Clear Channel has now reported 5 consecutive quarters of growth. |

Wallace, who was formerly CMG Ohio's Senior VP of News and Programming, will be responsible for all of the company's newspaper, television and radio properties in the Dayton and Louisville markets. She succeeds Alex Taylor, who was promoted to CMG Executive Vice President in Atlanta earlier this year. "Julia is a proven leader and has been one of Cox's most forward-thinking professionals," said Taylor. "She understands and reflects our enduring corporate values and will do an outstanding job leading our seasoned media team in Dayton, Springfield and Southwest Ohio." |

According to their 8K filing on Friday, SBS entered into an agreement to acquire KTBU-TV (Digital 42;Virtual Channel 55) and other television assets serving the Houston market from U.S. Farm & Ranch Supply Company, Inc. and certain of its subsidiaries for $16.0 million. KTBU-TV is a full-power television facility reaching approximately 1.8 million households in Houston, the nation's fourth-largest Hispanic television market, through its over-the-air, cable and satellite distribution platforms. |

Perhaps the example of what took place in Tyler Texas last night is a great example of why radio stations across America should get behind the push to have FM chips installed in cell phones. Public safety is one of the reasons the NAB is making a push to install the chips. Yesterday, Radio Ink publisher Eric Rhoads wrote an editorial about the chips and debuted a new commercial we are hoping radio stations can use to help educate the public. |
