As we continue a slow and steady grind out of a recession everyone is keeping a close eye on what public companies forecast for upcoming quarters. There was a time when nobody would even try to predict what future revenue would be. Now, although not huge gains, most companies see slow growth and slight pressure on inventory. Both Salem and Entercom reported Q1 numbers Monday and both are predicting single digit gains for the second quarter of 2011. |
Entercom President and Chief Executive Office David Field told investors Monday his company increased net revenue for Q1 by 2% (up to $82.5 million). Station Operating income decreased by 4% (to $20.7 million) and expenses increased 4% to ($61.8 million). Field says when you pull out the comps from political and last year's New Orleans Saints Super Bowl run "same station revenue growth increased 4% in the first quarter." Field says Entercom outpaced other broadcasters in 16 of 22 markets. |
Salem's Q1 numbers included an overall net revenue increase for the broadcasting business of 3.2% ($42.7 million from $41.4 million). However, same station operating income dropped 3.1% ($14.9 million from $15.4 million). Same station net broadcast revenue increased 3.7% ($41.8 million from $40.3 million) and same station operating income decreased 3.7% ($14.6 million from $15.2 million). Same station operating income margin decreased to 35.0% from 37.7%. |
