Knight hosted the morning show on WNYQ Q101.7 and was a local radio icon in upstate New York for more than 30 years. He died at his home Saturday afternoon after suffering a fatal heart attack while mowing his lawn. Knight was 59 years old. WNYQ General Manager Mike Thompson said, ?We are shocked and devastated. Rick was a friend to everyone and his passing leaves a huge hole in the hearts of not only his family and colleagues, but also all North Country radio listeners. Rick was a beloved local air personality for over thirty years and just a genuinely great guy.?
Born David William Titterington in Sandusky, Ohio on March 2, 1953, Rick got his start in radio in 1969 at the age of 16 on WWSC. Though Rick spent the majority of his career in the local area, he won several Program Director of the Year awards while working in multiple Florida markets. Among his many local on-air positions, Rick worked at WYLR and also did mornings on Fly 92.3 in Albany as Super Dave T.
Rick also worked mornings on WAYI 107.1 with Steve Van Zandt and was the programming force behind the inception of WKBE (KB-100) in the early 90?s. Rick returned to Adirondack Broadcasting on Everts Ave in Queensbury at 107.1 when it was rebranded ?Majic 107.1? (WMJR) in 1994. After the sale of Majic 107.1, he entertained listeners during the WCKM afternoon drive time slot. In 1997 he launched Cool Rock WCQL 95.9, and eventually came to WNYQ Classic Hits 101.7 in 2006.
Rick?s family has announced that First Visitation will be at M. B. Kilmer Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 15 from 3PM to 7PM, and funeral services for Rick will be held Wednesday, May 16 at 11AM. M. B. Kilmer Funeral Home is located at 136 Main Street in South Glens Falls, NY.
