Clear Channel Radio Revs Rise In Q3

Clear Channel's radio broadcasting revenue as up 6 percent in the third quarter, to $743 million, Clear Channel parent CC Media Holdings reports. For CC Media Holdings overall, revenue also rose 6 percent in the quarter, to $1.48 billion from $1.39 billion.

Ed Christian: Royalty Is A 'Levy On Profits'

Saga Communications Chairman/CEO Ed Christian said on the company's third-quarter earnings call that he sees a proposed performance royalty as "a tax, a levy on my profits." Christian said, "I have a responsibility to shareholders to not give away 1 percent of my gross revenue."
Saga reported net revenue of $32.8 million for the third quarter, up 5 percent from $31.3 million in the same period a year ago. Saga's net income in Q3 was $3.6 million (84 cents per fully diluted share), compared to $2.5 million (58 cents).

Katz: National Spot Pacing Up In Q4

In a new memo to clients, Katz Media President/CEO Stu Olds says national spot radio is pacing up 36.9 percent in the fourth quarter, with Q1 2011 pacing up 31.8 percent. Political has helped national spot rise 20 percent year-to-date, but, says the memo, "Our core business is the primary driver of our overall results."

Salem Q3 Broadcast Revenue Up

Salem Communications' broadcast revenue rose 2.7 percent in the third quarter, to $43.5 million from $42.4 million a year ago. Overall, Salem's revenue was up 4.4 percent, to $51.4 million from $49.2 million.

Washington state AG Rob McKenna's office is looking at Sirius XM after multiple complaints have come in saying the satcaster refused to cancel subscriptions, Seattle's KIRO-TV reports. McKenna would not comment on whether an official investigation has begun. Sirius XM's consumer practices are already being looked at in several states.
