Westwood Reaches Agreement With Lenders

It was just a few days ago that Westwood announced it could not file paperwork on time with the SEC. Today, the Company says it has reached an agreement in principle with its lenders to amend its debt covenants to provide the Company with additional financial flexibility going forward. In a statement, Westwood One said "while such agreement remains subject to execution of definitive documentation with the lenders, the Company is pleased to announce this development. It remains focused on its business strategy of providing the best level of programming and service in the industry to its affiliate and advertising customers. The Company will file with the SEC such definitive documentation upon its execution."

Why Was Jay Severin Fired by Greater Media?

Why Was Jay Severin Fired by Greater Media?

In 2006, Severin signed a 7-year deal worth about $1 million per year. Now, due to some things he said on the air, he is out of a job. Severin has been a staple at WTKK-FM in Boston for a long time. Greater Media deemed what Severin was bragging about last week inappropriate and has shown him the door.
Everyone Deserves A Second Chance in Radio. Right?

Everyone Deserves A Second Chance in Radio. Right?

Shannon Burke was a man on the rise with Clear Channel back in 2009. He had an afternoon shift on one of the coolest stations in Orlando called Real Radio. It was an FM Talker with an edge and Burke played the role perfectly. He had a strong following, arms loaded with tattoos and enjoyed riding motorcycles. He came to Orlando from Texas where he leaned liberal. The Real Radio crew had more of a conservative twist to it so Burke switched teams. No biggie. Radio is show biz baby.

Voicetracking. It's Part of Life. Be Good At It.

Voicetracking. It's Part of Life. Be Good At It.

One manager I worked for in the early days of voicetracking insisted, "Live is evil spelled backwards." One day a colleague asked, "Why are you looking at it backwards?" Decades later, the debate over voicetracking still rages. We may not love it. Radio people complain about it all the time. It's not like speaking to an audience live, in real time. You could be staring at the wall in production, not even listening to any music.

Glenn Beck Leaving Fox later This Year.

Glenn Beck Leaving Fox later This Year.

Beck put a press release on his website yesterday announcing his split with Fox. "I truly believe that America owes a lot to Roger Ailes and FOX News. I cannot repay Roger for the lessons I've learned and will continue to learn from him and I look forward to starting this new phase of our partnership." There's been a lot of chatter about how Beck's TV ratings have been in decline and advertisers were staying away from the program. Even with the drop in ratings Beck had the third highest rated program on cable.

Internet Star Rob Curley Returns to 2011 Radio Ink Convergence This May

Curley riveted the crowd in 2010 with his talk on the Sun's innovative and highly adaptable approach to news both in print and on the paper's huge and constantly updated website, demonstrating apps and upcoming initiatives and explaining the "hyperlocalism" that has brought the Sun success even as newspapers in general decline. That concept -- hyperlocalism -- is key, says Curley, to succeeding in the wildly competitive new media world. And at Convergence 2011, he'll offer an updated look at his own team's projects and a new perspective on change and competition in the digital world.
