FCC OK's NBCU-Comcast Merger, With Conditions

FCC OK's NBCU-Comcast Merger, With Conditions

The FCC has given its approval to the merger of NBC Universal and Comcast, with conditions that include requiring Comcast-NBCU to "take affirmative steps to foster competition in the video marketplace." The merged company will be required to guarantee "bona fide" online distributors will be able to obtain Comcast-NBCU programming "in appropriate circumstances."

Entercom Brings KUFX Into S.F., USC Takes On KDFC

The University of Southern California makes a deal with Entercom to take over the call letters and Classical programming of KDFC/San Francisco for noncommercial KUSF, which USC has purchased from the University of San Francisco. The former home of KDFC, at 102.1, will simulcast Entercom's Classic Rock KUFX/San Jose.

CRS Offers Special 'Unemployment Rate'

Country Radio Broadcasters offers a $99 "unemployment rate" for CRS 2011, set for March 2-4 in Nashville. The special rate is available through February 18.

Two men have been arrested in the theft of equipment from WHIO-TV/Dayton's transmission tower -- a break-in that knocked Country sister WHKO-FM off the air.

Apple Sets Revenue Record In Q1

Apple saw record revenues of $26.74 billion in its fiscal first quarter, which ended December 25. Quarterly profits came in at $6 billion ($6.43 per share), also a record and up from $3.38 billion ($3.67) a year ago. The company sold record numbers of Macs and iPhones in Q1, along with more than 7 million iPads.

Magnaglobal Projects 3% Ad-Revenue Growth In 2011

Magnaglobal updates its U.S. Media Advertising Revenue Forecast, predicting that media-industry advertising revenues will rise 3.1 percent this year, excluding the effects of political and Olympics advertising. That adds up to about $178 billion in revenues for the year.
