America's Radio News Network Sets Launch

America's Radio News Network will launch the first of its nationally syndicated long-form news blocks on January 24. The co-anchored block will air noon-3 p.m. daily, with breaking news, investigative reporting, and interviews; it's the first of five planned three-hour news-only blocks set to launch over the course of this year.

Apple's Jobs Takes Medical Leave

Apple CEO Steve Jobs is taking a medical leave of absence, leaving COO Tim Cook in charge of day-to-day operations. Jobs, who underwent a liver transplant two years ago and has had pancreatic cancer, gave no details in a memo to staff beyond saying he will focus on his health.

 

Dosch Rises To Telos CEO

Michael Dosch is appointed CEO of broadcast equipment maker Telos Systems, succeeding Steve Church. Dosch has been serving as president of the company's Axia Audio division. Company founder Church called Dosch's rise a "natural progression" and said, "I can think of no one better prepared to continue our enterprise's journey of innovation in service to our industry."

Canada's Astral Media reports that revenues were up 7 percent, to $261.7 million, in its fiscal first quarter, which ended November 30. The radio division saw revenues rise by 3 percent.

Report: Sirius XM Gets OK For Alaska Repeaters

Over the objections of local broadcasters, the FCC has approved Sirius XM to launch via terrestrial repeaters in Alaska, the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports. Sirius XM wants to use repeaters to bring its service to Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau in Alaska, and to Honolulu in Hawaii.

Royal Marshall, longtime producer of the nationally syndicated Neal Boortz Show has died of a heart attack at the age of 43.
