Last.fm Launches Festival App

July 13, 2011

Last.fm has launched the Last.fm Festival application available to U.S. users of iPhone, iPod and Android devices. The app is sponsored by the U.S. Air Force.  The company says "from Austin City Limits and Outside Lands to Lollapalooza, Warped Tour and Bumbershoot, the new application makes it easy for Last.fm?s users to find out which of more than 4500 upcoming festivals are most compatible with their unique music taste in any city, country or even continent in the world."

Based on Last.fm?s ?scrobbling? and recommendation technology, and a further extension of the site?s festival guide (http://www.last.fm/festivals/), personalized and informed suggestions are made in regards to the summer music season.  The more a user scrobbles and interacts with Last.fm, the better the service?s suggestions become.

Additionally, the Last.fm Festival app allows users to see a personalized compatibility score for each show, a recommended festival lineup, and bio information on each band at the show, as well as search by location, compatibility, date, genre or festival name.  Social media functionality has also been built into the app, allowing users to see which concerts their friends are attending and share events with them using Facebook and Twitter.  Unregistered users of Last.fm can access limited festival information by searching by name, artist, date or location. Apps for users outside the U.S. will be released in the upcoming months.
