2-12-14

When Emmis CEO Jeff Smulyan announced the purchase of WBLS-FM and WLIB-AM Tuesday night he also decided the manager to run his New York City cluster would be Deon Levingston. That meant HOT 97 General Manager Alex Cameron was out. The change did not come as a total surprise to Cameron who had been with the company for over ten years. She started at HOT 97 as the Sales Manager and took over the corner office just when the economy decided it needed to take a break. Smulyan said he loved Cameron and what she had done for Emmis, maneuvering the station through some tough times, and expects to see her succeed in other things. In her farewell note to HOT 97 employees, Cameron expressed her gratitude "for having had the chance to work with such a crazy, endearing and ?ber talented group of individuals who I hold in the highest regard."We spoke to Cameron about running a single New York City station, in a cluster world, her philosophy on managing and leading people and her plans for the future.
