WTOP Recruits Listeners To Help Cover Snowstorm

2-13-14

Laurie Cantillo tells Radio Ink the WTOP storm team has mobilized to cover the biggest winter storm to hit the D.C. region in four years, and is enlisting listeners to help. Cantillo says WTOP has a couple dozen employees staying in a nearby hotel so they can make it in for their shifts. "We also learned that an essential part of a reporter's field kit is a ruler or tape measure. This is a photo of WTOP's reporter John Aaron, who creatively combined a boom mic and ruler so he could take snow measurements while on "road patrol" today." Listeners can tweet, call, or email the station describing what's happening in their neighborhood. WTOP is providing listeners with instructions on how to tweet their photos, post them to their Facebook page, submit gallery photos, and they've even posted a video explaining how listeners can record studio-quality audio on their smartphones and e-mail it to the station for playback.
