On the syndicated level, Westwood One "Country Countdown USA" host Lon Helton is named "National CMA Broadcast Personality of the Year." Locally, Chris Carr, Jeff "Maverick" Bolen, & Kia Becht of KEEY, Minneapolis' "Chris Carr & Company" are "Major Market Personality of the Year" and David Chandler, Chelsie Shinkle, & Jason Statt of WUBE, Cincinnati's "The Big Dave Show" are "Large Market Personality of the Year." Meanwhile, Gator Harrison, Greg "Styckman" Owens, & "Cowboy" Kyle Croft of WUSY, Chattanooga's "The Gator & Stykman Program" are "Medium Market Personality of the Year" and Eddie Foxx & Sharon Green of WKSF, Asheville, North Carolina's "The Eddie Foxx Show" are "Small Market Personality of the Year." Station honorees are Cox Media Group Houston's KKBQ "93-Q" ("Major Market"); Hubbard Broadcasting Cincinnati's WUBE "B-105.1" ("Large Market"); iHeartMedia Chattanooga's WUSY "US-101″("Medium Market"); and Scripps Springfield, Missouri's KTTS "94.7 Country's Best" ("Small Market"). Winners will be recognized during the broadcast of ABC-TV's "50th Annual CMA Awards" from Nashville in just over three weeks (11/2).
dan-thomasThomas Tapped As Results Radio Chico OM. Former KKBZ, Fresno program director Dan Thomas returns to California as operations manager for Results Radio's four-station Chico cluster. He succeeds Robert Benjamin, who exited approximately three months ago. Results Radio senior vice president Dave Shakes comments, "Our Chico market manager, Jon Graham, and I are excited to bring Dan into the company. We think he will be a great fit and positive leader for the programming team." Thomas – who begins his new assignment today (10/10) – remarks, "Results Radio is a unique company that works hard and still manages to have fun; I am ready to dive in head first." Thomas' previous experience includes being Townsquare Media Grand Junction, Colorado's operations manager and programming in Anchorage, Alaska at KWHL. The Results Radio Chico quartet consists of adult hits KBQB "92.7 Bob"; CHR KCEZ "Power 102"; rock KRQR "106.7 Z-Rock"; and classic rock KTHU "Thunder 100.7." In addition to his OM duties, Thomas will be the program director of KRQR. The Nielsen Audio market leader for Chico in spring 2016 is Deer Creek's KHSL "Hit Country – The Blaze" (8.4, 12+). KTHU and KCEZ are tied at #3 (both with 4.9, 12+), while KRQR and KBQB are locked at #7 (each with 3.9, 12+); Results Radio owns KKCY "Country 103.1" (#12, 2.0, 12+) there as well.
dj-bonics"DJ Bonics" Joins KWEE, Portland for PM Drive. The official "DJ" for Wiz Khalifa's Taylor Gang Entertainment – "DJ Bonics" (real name – Brandon Glova) – takes over 4:00 – 7:00 pm duties next Monday (10/17) on Portland rhythmic CHR KWEE "WE 96.3," owned by 3 Horizons LLC and operated by Alpha Media through an LMA. Alphakwee Media vice president of programming Phil Becker comments, "Very few broadcast companies are willing to commit to authentic hip-hop. Nationally, the format is underserved and 'WE' are here to change that. 'Bonics' brings genuine credibility and star power to Portland's true hip-hop station." Program director Chris Stewart notes, "'Bonics' is a pro-bowler and 'WE' are excited to have the opportunity to draft him. I have no doubt that, with him on the roster, 'WE' will do big things." According to University of Pittsburgh graduate 'Bonics'/Glova, "I am so excited to move to Portland to work with Alpha Media – especially with Phil Becker. With his vision and my experience in radio, 'WE' will create something special, not just for Portland, but for the world." Glova's previous on-air work includes stops at WRDW "Wired 96.5," Philadelphia and WKST "Kiss 96.1," Pittsburgh. Licensed to West Linn (Oregon), "WE 96.3" does not appear in Nielsen Audio's September 2016 survey period that is led by iHeartMedia adult contemporary KKCW "K-103" (8.6, 6+); "K-103" rhythmic CHR sibling KXJM "Jam'N' 107.5" is #17 (2.6, 6+).
