PPM Data – Part Three. September 2016 ratings information nielsen-logohas been released for Portland, Charlotte, Pittsburgh, Sacramento, San Antonio, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Kansas City, Orlando, and Columbus. Nielsen Audio's September 2016 survey period covered August 11 – September 7. RadioInfo managing editor Mike Kinosian (Kinosian@RadioInfo.com) provides his "Takeaways" from these 12-PPM markets.
TWELVE TAKEAWAYS
1) Portland – Frozen on 1.7 (6+) in April, May, and June – KMHD dropped one-half share in July; added two-tenths in kkrzAugust; and now rings up a +.6 to 2.0, the first time it has reached the two-share barrier in more than six years (2.2, June 2010). The public jazz outlet inches up from #20 to #19. Down or flat the past three sweeps for a combined -.6 (5.4 – 5.4 – 5.1 – 4.8, 6+), iHeartMedia CHR KKRZkkcw "Z-100" registers a gain of one-half share to 5.3 (6+), jumping from ninth to sixth. In addition to being up for the third successive time for a combined +1.5 (7.1 – 7.6 – 8.3 – 8.6, 6+), adult contemporary sibling KKCW "K-103" is #1 for the 27th time in the last 29 ratings periods. A one-tenth gain in May ended four straight sweeps without an increase (21.4 – 9.5 – 8.8 – 8.6 – 8.6, 6+); in June, "K-103" suffered a massive -1.6 to 7.1, its lowest 6+-share in two years (6.6, June 2014). In a 3.5 – 3.6 – 3.5 – 3.6 – 3.5 (6+) ping-pong pattern April through August, co-owned rhythmic CHR KXJM "JAM'N 107.5" erodes by nine-tenths to 2.6, spiraling from #13 to #17. Despite having its fifth straight sweep without a decrease for a combined +1.3 since April (3.9 – 4.2 – 4.5 – 5.0 – 5.0 – 5.2, 6+), Entercom adult hits KYCH "97.1 Charlie – We Play Everything" segues from a three-way tie at #6 to sole possession of #7. Declining by six-tenths each are Alpha Media triple A KINK "101.9 Uniquely Portland" (4.0 – 3.4, #11 to #12, 6+) and Salem Media Group contemporary Christian KFIS "104.1 The Fish" (#16 to #18). September's -.6 wipes out a gain of one-half share recorded in August by "The Fish," when it had its best 6+-share since January. The market's two FM country outlets both have back-to-back losses: Entercom's KWJJ "99.5 The Wolf – Great Country for the Great Northwest" (third to fourth) is trending 6.7 – 6.0 – 5.7 (6+), while Alpha Media's KUPL "98.7 The Bull" (sixth to eighth) is 5.5 – 5.0 – 4.9 (6+).
2) Charlotte – In 5.1 – 5.9 (6+) territory the past 13 sweeps, Beasley Media Group urban AC WBAV "V-101.9" explodes with wbava +.9 to 6.8 (6+), advancing from fourth to third. By logging a +.3 to 4.1 (6+), adult contemporary cluster-mate WKQC "K-104.7" (tenth to ninth) halts three consecutive downward trends that yielded a -1.3 (5.1 – 4.6 – 4.4 – 3.8, 6+). Co-owned WSOC "Country's Greatest Hits" has been deadlocked at #1 withwrfx iHeartMedia classic rocker WRFX "The Fox" in July and August. That matter gets resolved in September though, as "The Fox" breaks out a one-half share increase to 7.8 – its best 6+-share since July 2014 (also 7.8) – and takes sole possession of the top spot. Off one-tenth to 7.2 (6+), "Country's Greatest Hits" – which occupied the #1 spot the first four months of the year before dropping to third-place in May – now shifts to second. It is a much steeper fall though for iHeartMedia's similarly programmed WKKT "96.9 The Kat – Charlotte's #1 for New Country," which flounders by -1.4 (6.0 – 4.6, 6+), sliding from third to sixth. This is the weakest 6+-showing for "The Kat" since "Holiday" 2013 (4.3, 6+). In addition to "The Fox," Beasley Media Group CHR WNKS "95.1 Kiss FM" also improves by one-half share (3.8 – 4.3, tenth to seventh, 6+). Before its -.7 in August, "Kiss" had been up the previous three sweeps for a combined +1.2 (3.3 – 3.6 – 3.9 – 4.5, 6+); July's 4.5 was its strongest 6+-share in one year (5.5, July 2015). Following four successive sweeps without an increase that produced a -1.1 (5.1 – 5.1 – 5.0 – 4.7 – 4.0, 6+), iHeartMedia adult hits WLKO adds two-tenths to 4.2 (6+), as "102.9 The Lake" climbs from ninth to eighth. In four straight increases (2.3 – 2.6 – 2.9 – 3.6 – 3.7, 6+), WDAV is a combined +1.4, as the Davidson College classical outlet advances from #13 to #12.
3) Pittsburgh – Ousted from the top spot in August after six consecutive months there, iHeartMedia classic hits-oldies wwswWWSW "3WS" rebounds from a -.5 with a gain of nine-tenths (10.2 – 9.7 – 10.6, 6+) and returns to #1. It succeeds rock cluster-mate WDVE (10.1 – 9.9, -.2, 6+), which takes over at #2. The -.2 in September by WDVE halts its string of positive or flat trends at five (8.7 – 8.8 – 8.8 – 9.2 – 9.8 – 10.3, 6+). Up a cumulative +1.6 between March and August, WDVE – in August – registered itskdka-fm most potent 6+-share since November's 10.9. On the strength of a +.6 to 7.6, CBS Radio's KDKA-FM "93.7 The Fan" (fifth to fourth) has its strongest 6+showing since October's 10.1. Owing to a -.4 in August, co-owned WDSY "Y-108 Pittsburgh's Country" had its string of successive gains – which netted "Y-108" two full-shares – halted at three (5.0 – 5.7 – 6.2 – 7.0, 6+). Even though it is off by another six-tenths, "Y-108" continues at #7. Its format competitor – iHeartMedia's WPGB "Big 104.7 – Pittsburgh's #1 for New Country" – shakes off a -.9 in August with a +.3 (3.7 – 4.0, 6+) and is steady at #10. After seven successive sweeps without a decrease for a cumulative +1.8 (2.5 – 2.5 – 2.6 – 2.7 – 3.2 – 3.9 – 3.9 – 4.3, 6+), "Big 104.7" lost two-tenths in June and added one-half share in July before stumbling by nine-tenths in August. Stymied at 5.6 (6+) in May and June and then on 3.4 (6+) in July and August, alternative sibling WXDX "105.9 The X" regresses by one-half share to 2.9 but carries on at #11.
4) Sacramento – For the past eight survey periods, CBS Radio-owned KNCI has registered a 6+-share in the 4.1 – 4.7 range, but knci"New Country 105.1" lets loose with a +1.1 (4.7 – 5.8, 6+). Rather than being in a three-way tie at #4 (as was the case in August), it now has that spot all to itself. KNCI last crossed the five-share level (6+) exactly one year ago with a 5.1 in September 2015. Showing off gains of seven-tenths each are iHeartMedia talker KSTE (3.2 –kdnd 3.9, #11 to #9, 6+); Entravision Spanish adult hits KXSE "Jose 104.3" (2.3, #18 to #16, 6+); and Lazer Broadcasting regional Mexican KGRB "Radio Lazer 94-3" (1.0 – 1.7, #20 to #19, 6+). Up an impressive nine-tenths in August, KSTE had been without an increase the previous four sweeps for a -.7 (3.0 – 2.6 – 2.6 – 2.5 – 2.3, 6+). "Jose" was frozen on 1.6 (6+) in July and August, while the May through August pattern for "Radio Lazer" was .9 – 1.0 – .9 – 1.0 (6+). Although it backslides from fourth to fifth, Entercom CHR KDND "107.9 The End" is without a decrease for the sixth straight time (3.6 – 4.0 – 4.3 – 4.3 – 4.5 – 4.7 – 4.7, 6+) and has its highest 6+-share since last September's 4.8. After consecutive downtrends (in May and June) that produced a -1.2 (10.6 – 9.8 – 9.4, -.4, 6+), classic rock cluster-mate KSEG posted a +.9 in July. "The Eagle" has dipped four-tenths in both August and September (10.3 – 9.9 – 9.5, 6+), but is #1 for the eighth straight ratings period. When "The Eagle" faltered by eight-tenths in May, it witnessed an end to three consecutive increases (8.9 – 9.0 – 9.5 – 10.6, 6+) that netted a combined +1.7. Holding the dubious distinction of having the second highest (6+) August 2016 – September 2016 drop-off of any station in the 36 PPM-markets whose data has been released thus far, CBS Radio adult contemporary KYMX "Mix 96" (7.6 – 5.9, -1.7, 6+) nonetheless remains in third-place; 5.9 is its lowest 6+-showing since November (also 5.9). "Mix" had been up or flat the past four sweeps (6.5 – 6.6 – 7.1 – 7.6 – 7.6, 6+). Prior to June, "Mix" finished third the previous four survey periods. For the record, the greatest (6+) loss thus far is -2.7 by Greater Media Detroit urban-rhythmic oldies WMGC "The Bounce" (see Wednesday's "Takeaways" column). Following a strong +.8 in August, iHeartMedia news-talk hybrid KFBK falters by a lofty -1.4 (8.1 – 6.7, 6+) but stays in the runner-up slot. The two-tenths KFBK picked up in July ended three straight downward trends (9.1 – 7.8 – 7.4 – 7.1, 6+) for a net loss of two full-shares. Also in that cluster, urban-rhythmic oldies KHYL is down or flat for the third straight time (3.7 – 3.7 – 3.4 – 2.9, 6+) for a net loss of eight-tenths and "V-101" departs the top ten (#9 to #13). Going back to January and including its current September stat, the extremely consistent 6+-line for Entravision-owned country KNTY is 2.2 – 2.3 – 2.3 – 2.2 – 2.2 – 2.3 – 2.1 – 2.1 – 2.1; "101.9 The Wolf" dips from #17 to #18.
5) San Antonio – As is so often the case in this Texas market, country is the headline as Cox Media Group's KCYY "Y-100" kcyy(6.6 – 7.2, 6+) and iHeartMedia-owned KAJA "KJ-97" (5.5 – 6.1, 6+) are each up by six-tenths. They remain at #2 and #3, respectively. Ironically, both of these country rivals has its highest 6+-share since last November, 7.2 for "Y-100," and 6.1 for "KJ-kaja97," which had been in the five-share range the past ten sweeps. Improving by one-half share each are Cox Media Group's KISS "Rocks San Antonio" (5.1 – 5.6, seventh to fourth, 6+) and iHeartMedia CHR KXXM "Mix 96.1" (3.9 – 4.4, #12 to #9, 6+). KISS has its best 6+-stat since "Holiday" 2015, when it reached 5.8. Unchanged at #24, Texas Public Radio classical outlet KPAC picks up one-tenth to .9 (6+), thus ending three straight declines for a cumulative loss of one full-share (1.8 – 1.8 – 1.4 – .8, 6+). Returning the three-tenths it gained in August (8.3 – 8.6 – 8.3, 6+), Cox Media Group classic hits-oldies KONO-FM is #1 for the ninth straight sweep. Before dropping from first to second in the "Holiday" 2015 report, KONO-FM was #1 in 17 of the previous 22 monthlies. Following an increase of nine-tenths in August, iHeartMedia talker WOAI relinquishes all of it plus one-tenth (4.3 – 5.2 – 4.2, -1.0, 6+) to freefall from the top ten (#6 to #11). The +.9 in August ended three straight declines for WOAI (5.2 – 4.8 – 4.7 – 4.3, 6+), wiping out the -.9 in that stretch. Meanwhile, Alpha Media adult hits KJXK "102.7 Jack FM – Playing What We Want" is in a somewhat situation as it forfeits one-half share of the +.6 it posted in August (4.5 – 5.1 – 4.6, 6+) to drop from seventh to eighth. After three consecutive gains resulting in a combined +1.4 (3.6 – 3.8 – 4.1 – 5.0, 6+), Cox Media Group hot AC KSMG "Magic 105.3 – Today's Best Music" dips by three-tenths to 4.7 (6+), yet advances from ninth to seventh. The last time "Magic" reached the five-share level (6+) was April 2014 (5.8).
6) Cincinnati – Powered by a robust +1.3 (4.5 – 5.8, 6+), iHeartMedia-owned WEBN "Cincinnati's Rock Station for 40 webnYears" zooms from tenth to fifth. The last time WEBN reached the five-share level (6+) was in October 2015 (5.2, 6+). It has been almost like clockwork to see talk sibling WLW "The Big One" at #1, only yielding the position in each "Holiday" report to Cumulus Media adult contemporary WRRM "Warmwgrr 98." Things have changed lately though as another Cumulus Media outlet – classic hits-oldies WGRR "103.5 WGRR" – grabbed the market's 6+ bragging rights in July. WLW returned to the top in August, but with a whopping +1.2 (8.6 – 9.8, 6+), WGRR (up from #3 in August) recaptures the title from the Cincinnati Reds' flagship, which erodes by one full-share (9.2 – 8.2, 6+). Before the September gain, WGRR posted three successive negative trends resulting in a cumulative -1.7 (10.3 – 9.8 – 9.3 – 8.6, 6+). It is the first time that WLW – tied for second with Hubbard Broadcasting country WUBE "B-105" (8.9 – 8.2, -.7, 6+) – falls below a nine-share (6+) since March 2014 (8.8). As for "B-105," a gigantic +1.3 in August put an end to three straight downward trends which resulted in a net loss of one full-share (8.6 – 8.4 – 8.2 – 7.6, 6+); 8.9 was its best 6+-stat since 9.3 in October 2015. Commencing with the "Holiday" 2015 report, "B-105" put together four straight up-trends (5.9 – 6.1 – 7.9 – 8.1 – 8.6, 6+). Also in the country format, Cumulus Media's WNNF "94.1 Nash FM" (#13 to #14) sputters by one-half share (3.2 – 2.7, 6+). In August, its string of up or flat trends (a combined +1.5) ended at seven (1.9 – 1.9 – 2.0 – 2.4 – 2.5 – 2.6 – 3.1 – 3.4, 6+). Owing to a +.1 to 1.2 (6+), another country outlet, Hubbard Broadcasting's WYGY "97.3 The Wolf" (steady at #18), ends six straight sweeps without an increase (1.7 – 1.5 – 1.4 – 1.3 – 1.2 – 1.1 – 1.1, 6+). Following four successive progressive trends that nearly doubled its 6+-share since April (3.5 – 4.0 – 4.7 – 5.3 – 6.7, 6+), iHeartMedia talker WKRC (a mammoth +1.4 in August) falters by nine-tenths to 5.8 (6+), sliding from fourth to fifth. Off by one-half share in August, CHR sibling WKFS "Kiss 107" erodes by another eight-tenths in September (5.9 – 5.4 – 4.6, 6+) to drop from sixth to ninth.
7) Cleveland – No other station in the 36 PPM-markets whose data has been released this week notches a more potent 6+ August wgar2016 – September 2016 increase than iHeartMedia's WGAR (6.3 – 8.2, +1.9, 6+) with "Cleveland's Country" progressing from sixth to third. Moreover, it is the strongest 6+-performance for WGAR since August 2015 (8.8). Also noteworthy is that "Cleveland's Country" faltered by nine-tenths in August, after sandwiching a 7.5 (6+, June) between 7.2-shares (6+) in May andwqal July. Consistent May through August (5.2 – 5.0 – 5.1 – 5.1, 6+), CBS Radio hot AC WQAL "Q-104 Plays the Hits" climbs from tenth to ninth by dialing up a +.9 to 6.0, its highest 6+-share since May 2015 (also 6.0, 6+). Unchanged at #12, co-owned WKRK "Sports Radio 92.3 The Fan" trots out a +.6 to 3.3 (6+), halting three consecutive down or flat trends for a combined -1.4 (4.1 – 3.4 – 3.4 – 2.7, 6+). Conversely, a loss of seven-tenths to 10.8 (6+) by iHeartMedia-owned WMJI brings to a close five straight gains for a cumulative +1.2 (10.3 – 10.7 – 10.9 – 11.3 – 11.4 – 11.5, 6+). Nonetheless, "Cleveland's Greatest Hits" is #1 for the ninth successive sweep. By posting a +.4 in April, WMJI halted three consecutive downward trends (12.3 – 11.5 – 10.6 – 10.3 – 10.7, 6+). After three straight increases netting a +1.5 (4.6 – 5.5 – 5.9 – 6.1, 6+), CHR sibling WAKS sputters by eight-tenths to 5.3 (6+) as "96.5 Kiss FM" drops from seventh to tenth. Declining by one-half share each are adult hits cluster-mate WHLK "106.5 The Lake" (8.9 – 8.4, 6+) and CBS Radio adult contemporary and classic rock siblings WDOK "Star 102" (7.3, third to fourth, 6+) and WNCX "Cleveland's Classic Rock" (6.8 – 6.3, fifth to sixth, 6+). Racking up four straight monthlies without a decrease (6.6 – 6.8 – 7.7 – 7.7 – 8.4, 6+), "The Lake" dropped three-tenths in July but posted a +.8 in August; it is in the runner-up slot for the fourth consecutive report. Recent 6+-trends for "Cleveland's Classic Rock" are +.7 (June); -.7 (July); +.6 (August); and -.5 (September). "Star" notched a 7.8 (6+) in three of the last four sweeps.
8) Salt Lake City – While the August tie at #1 is broken in September, it is still an exceptionally close race between Capital kbznBroadcasting hot AC KBZN "Now 97.9 Today's Best Music" (6.7 – 7.1, +.4, steady at #1) and Bonneville adult contemporary KSFI "FM 100.3 – Better Music Better Work Day" (+.3, #1 to #2). Despite segueing to the runner-up slot, "FM 100.3" (#1 in "Holiday" 2015 with a 15.6, 6+) registers its fourth straight gain (5.3 – 5.7 – 6.2 – 6.3 – 6.7 – 7.0, 6+). Theksfi rollercoaster ride continues meanwhile for co-owned classic hits-oldies KRSP "103.5 The Arrow," which zoomed from seventh to first in July. Its three most recent 6+-trends are +1.0 (July); -.9 (August); and +.7 in September (5.4 – 6.4 – 5.5 – 6.2, fifth to fourth, 6+). Unchanged at #22, KSOP-AM "Classic Country AM 1370" registers a +.2 to 1.2 (6+), thus curtailing five straight down or flat trends that produced a -.9 (1.9 – 1.9 – 1.9 – 1.7 – 1.5 – 1.0, 6+). Displaying identical 5.2 – 4.6, -.6, seventh to eighth (6+) moves are iHeartMedia talk and classic hits-oldies siblings KNRS and KODJ "Salt Lake's Greatest Hits." A +.3 in July by KNRS (followed by a +.6 in August) stopped five successive negative trends which resulted in a combined -1.5 (5.8 – 5.7 – 5.6 – 5.3 – 5.0 – 4.3, 6+). This is the third consecutive decline for "Salt Lake's Greatest Hits" (6.6 – 5.5 – 5.2 – 4.6, 6+) for a cumulative loss of two full-shares. In addition to KNRS and KODJ, Broadway Media CHR KUDD "Mix 105.1 – All The Hits" is also down by six tenths. "Mix" was down one-half share in August (5.3 – 4.8 – 4.2, 6+) and slips from ninth to tenth.
9) Las Vegas – Off a combined nine-tenths in July and August, Faith Communications contemporary Christian KSOS "Radio ksosFor Life" regains all of it (5.4 – 4.8 – 4.5 – 5.4, +.9, 6+) to advance from sixth to fourth. Without an increase the past five survey periods for a cumulative -1.5 since March (5.8 – 5.4 – 5.4 – 5.4 – 4.7 – 4.3, 6+), CBS Radio hot AC KMXB "Mix 94.1" dials up a +.8 to 5.1 (seventh to fifth, 6+). Following three straight downward trends netting a combined -2.4 (8.1 – 7.4 – 6.0 – 5.7, 6+), iHeartMedia adult contemporaryksne KSNE "Sunny 106.5" posts a +.7 to 6.4 (6+) and climbs from third to second. Until July, "Sunny" was on top for 22 straight monthlies. Gaining one-half share each are Lotus classic rock KXPT "97.1 The Point" (5.8 – 6.3, second to third, 6+); Univision Radio regional Mexican KISF "Zona MX 103.5" (4.0 – 4.5, tenth to seventh, 6+); and CBS Radio talk KXNT (1.9, #20), which was trending 2.1 – 1.8 – 1.5 – 1.4 (6+). Owing to a -.1 in August, "The Point" was down for the first time since January (4.4 – 4.7 – 4.9 – 5.3 – 5.5 – 5.5 – 5.9, 6+); it was a combined +1.5 in that timeframe. In the runner-up slot six straight months before advancing to #1 in July, Beasley Media Group's classic hits-oldies KKLZ is on top for the third consecutive time. After a +.1.0 in July and +.9 in August, however, it regresses by -.7 (5.5 – 6.5 – 7.4 – 6.7, 6+); 7.4 was the best 6+-showing for KKLZ in more than four years (7.5, July 2012). In three successive up-trends totaling +2.2 (1.5 – 2.2 – 3.0 – 3.7, 6+), KRGT "Latino Mix 99.3" has more than doubled its 6+-share, but the Univision Radio Spanish contemporary coughs up exactly half of that gain (2.2, -1.1, 6+) and spirals from #12 to #16. Up or flat in four straight ratings periods including back-to-back increases of +.9 and +1.1 (April and May) before a -1.1 in June, Lotus-owned KOMP "92.3 The Rock Station" bounced back with a +1.0 in July but was -.9 in August. The wild fluctuations continue with a -.8 in September (3.8 – 3.0, #11 to #12, 6+). On the heels of a lofty -1.3 in August, iHeartMedia's KWNR erodes by another seven-tenths (5.6 – 4.3 – 3.6, 6+) to slide from seventh to tenth. Prior to August, "95.5 The Bull – Las Vegas' New Country" had three successive progressive trends netting a +2.2 (3.4 – 3.9 – 5.2 – 5.6, 6+). In its final monthly as a CHR, co-owned KPLV (now adult hits "The Mountain") declines by six-tenths (2.0 – 1.4, 6+) and departs the top 20 (#20 to #21). Regressing by one-half share each are Beasley Media Group's KCYE "102.7 The Coyote" (3.2 – 2.7, unchanged at #14, 6+) and University of Nevada jazz outlet KUNV, which posted a +.6 in August (.4 – 1.0 – .5, #22 to #26, 6+).
10) Kansas City – Having replicated -.6 losses in July and August, Entercom's KCSP "610 Sports" not only responds with kcspan increase of eight-tenths (4.7 – 4.1 – 3.5 – 4.3, 6+), it returns to the top ten (#15 to #9). Up or flat for the fourth straight time yielding a cumulative +1.1 (1.4 – 1.6 – 1.6 – 2.5 – 2.5, 6+), talk sibling KMBZ-AM is steady at #18. One-half share separates the market's three FM country outlets. Steel City Media's KBEQ "Q-104 #1 for New Country" is up two-tenths to 4.3 (tenth to ninth,krfx 6+); co-owned KFKF "Country 94.1" gains four-tenths (3.8 – 4.2, #13 to #11, 6+); and Entercom's WDAF "106.5 The Wolf" declines by one-tenth (3.9 – 3.8, #13, 6+). Things remain razor close at the top between Cumulus Media classic rock and classic hits-oldies siblings KCFX "The Fox" (7.2 – 7.3, +.1, #1 for the fifth straight time) and KCMO-FM "Kansas City's Greatest Hits," which improves for the third successive sweep for a combined +1.9 (5.3 – 6.0 – 7.0 – 7.2, #2). "The Fox" dropped two-tenths in August, thus bringing to a close four successive up or flat monthlies yielding a +1.5 (5.9 – 6.4 – 6.8 – 7.4 – 7.4, 6+). When KCMO-FM registered a -.9 in June to 5.3 (6+), it ended a successive string of four up or flat trends (5.2 – 5.4- 6.0 – 6.2 – 6.2, 6+). Locked on 4.1 (6+) in July and August, CHR sibling KCHZ "All the Hits 95.7 The Vibe" flounders by eight-tenths to 3.3, its lowest 6+-share since January's 3.1, plummeting from #10 to #16.
11) Orlando – Over and above registering back-to-back increases, iHeartMedia CHR WXXL "XL-106.7" progresses from second to wxxlfirst on the strength of a whopping +1.5 to 10.4, its best-ever (6+) performance in the PPM-era. Dislodged from #1 and segueing to #2 is Spanish tropical sibling WRUM, flat at 9.5 (6+) following a -.9 in August. Racking up gains of seven-tenths each are adult contemporary cluster-mate WMGF "Magic 107.7" and Cox Mediawmgf Group country outlet WWKA "K-92.3" (4.0 – 4.7, #12 to #10, 6+). Over the course of the past 13 sweeps, "Magic 107.7" (8.0, steady at #3, 6+) is trending +.5 (October); -1.0 (November); +1.6 (December); +5.2 ("Holiday" 2015); -4.7 (January); -1.2 (February); +1.3 (March); +.7 (April); +.6 (May); -.8 (June); -1.1 (July); -.4 (August); and +.7 (September). Meanwhile, "K92.3" has its best 6+-showing since November 2015's 5.0. In 4.0 – 4.5 range (6+) the past six survey periods, CBS Radio CHR WQMP "Amp" falters by eight-tenths (4.3 – 3.5, 6+) moving from #11 to #12. It has been a yo-yo effect lately for WCFB "Star 94.5," which declined by a combined -1.4 in March and April; rebounded with back-to-back gains of +.6 in May and June; was -.5 in July; and posted a +1.1 in August. Now in September, the Cox Media Group urban AC is -.7 as "Star" slides from fifth to sixth. After the dust settles, "Star" is down three-tenths from February (6.2 – 5.0 – 4.8 – 5.4 – 6.0 – 5.5 – 6.6 – 5.9, 6+). Eroding by six-tenths each are its rhythmic CHR sibling WPYO "Power 95.3" (4.7, eighth to tenth, 6+) and iHeartMedia's WTKS-HD2 (1.7 – 1.1, #16 to #17, 6+). "Power 95.3" had been without a decrease the past four survey periods for a combined +1.8 (3.5 – 3.5 – 4.6 – 5.3 – 5.3, 6+).
12) Columbus – Two outlets in Ohio's capital city improve their August 2016 6+-stat by an impressive +1.1: Radiohio's WBNS-wbns-fmFM "Sports Radio 97.1 The Fan" (eighth to sixth, 6+) and Radio One's rhythmic CHR WCKX "Power 107.5" (4.8, ninth to seventh, 6+). This represents the third straight gain for "The Fan" (3.6 – 3.7 – 4.0 – 5.1, 6+) and its highest 6+-share since January (also 5.1); "Power" had been down or flat the past three survey periods for a cumulative -.6 (4.3 – 4.3 – 4.1 – 3.7, 6+). While unchanged at #14, Saga Communications classic hits-oldieswckx WNND notches a +.2 to 2.0 (6+) to apply the brakes to three successive declines which eroded "Rewind" by 40% since May (3.0 – 2.9 – 2.4 – 1.8, 6+). The combined 6+ August 2016 total of iHeartMedia CHR WNCI (12.1) and co-owned country WCOL (11.8) was 23.9. The two stations retain their #1 and #2 rankings, respectively, but the total shrinks by -2.4 to 21.5 as WNCI is 11.1 (-1.0, 6+) and WCOL is 10.4 (-1.4, 6+). It is the lowest 6+-figure for WCOL since "Holiday" 2015 (8.0). Nevertheless, it is the ninth straight time they have occupied the top two spots and eighth successive ratings period each logs double-digits (6+). Off by six-tenths in August, Saga Communications classic rock WLVQ "Q-FM 96" flounders by another eight-tenths (6.6 – 6.0 – 5.2, 6+) as it slips from fourth to fifth. Before the -.6 in August, "Q-FM 96" put together four successive gains for a cumulative +2.3 (4.3 – 4.5 – 5.5 – 6.4 – 6.6, 6+). Following an eight-tenths' improvement in August to 2.7, its best 6+share since September 2015's 2.9, iHeartMedia alternative WXZX "105.7 The X" forfeits seven-tenths to 2.0 (6+) and skids from #11 to #14. Down in four successive sweeps (4.4 – 3.6 – 3.3 – 2.6 – 2.5, 6+) and finishing #13 in June, contemporary Christian WCVO "Uplifting & Encouraging 104.9 The River" was unlisted in July and August, but reappears in September at #12 (2.4, 6+).
